being that this game is a little old, are their not alot of players? i really wanna get this game but alot of people try and talk me out of it cause they say FFxi dosent hhave alot of players

Only the forums are dead. I still play this game, and as far as I'm concerned there's still a ton of players. Popularity wise it is 5th place of MMORPGs. The only MMO I've ever liked to be honest. World of Warcraft is way overrated. The only problem with this game, is if you don't have alot of time and patience on your hands, then it's going to be very difficult for you.

It'll suck a lot of life out of you because it takes so much time to play well. That's why a lot of people quit.

But for me, it was the inflation and the life-moving-on-thingy.

The inflation is gone. Square Enix banned most of the gil sellers and everything went dirt cheap on the AH.

The game is basically maintaining around 150,000 active subscriptions. Starting now will be fine, there are ALWAYS lower level jobs being leveled.

I just purchased the game recently..

the only bad thing is the amount of time that the game takes to update... considering there are quite a few patches and upgrades for the program to install since the game's release.

It took me two hours to install and configure my profile, and then an estimated further three hours for the game to update... o.0;

Has the game come back now with the sale of it on the 360? I'm planning on going back to the game, and if there are more players then that is great! And BTW, most MMO's have a long patching time for the very first installation, you're installing all patches to date, so it takes a short while.

I am playing on the Pandemonium Server and there is never a shortage of players. It's pretty populated.

whoever told you that is crazy, you do a /sea all and theres like 3000+ people on at any given time. on ever server and theres like 30+ servers.

Well, I can't really come back to this game until they can restore my samurai, so for now I'm just doing whatever in boredom. Hopefully when I do go back the game will have a while before it dies down because MMORPGS with low populations is kinda depressing.

Simultaneously, with the release of Wings of the Goddess they are having a Return to Vana'Diel campaign where old players can come back and get their old characters back. =]

This is my very first mmorpg, after that i have tried a lot of different ones (curently playing WoW) ffxi is still my all time favorite. beautifully rendered, without ugly polygons you see in WoW, and the characters are actually not THAT weird looking (LOTRO, everquest, vanguard...) and exciting melee attack special effects. The world is huge, and with the graphic its aiming for, this game takes crazy space on your hard drive. If i have had more time in hand, i'd totally come back and work on my lvl 75s. Definitely a very challenging game, which makes it fun and rewarding to play. Just wish they have more character looks, along with all the creative new jobs they coming up with.

I just bought the updated version for ps2 with all the expansions n spent a shit load of money buying the pieces for my old ass big ps2 it was a pain
