Pixel or paper

how many pixels would a sheet of paper be?

I thought this was going to be one of those great debates on which is better; sketching and drawing on paper first or only using the computer.

Which by the way, I don't care how good your computer graphic skills are, an employer will always select an individual with some fine art skills over someone who only knows the computer. The ability to sketch your ideas on paper first is priceless and is quickly becoming a lost art. So many new designers are only capable of designing on the computer. If you give them a pad of paper and some markers they act like you just handed them the steering wheel for a jumbo jet..

You're right about fine art skills coming before tech skills. Luckily I grew up drawing and am still pretty good at it, sketching concepts is definitely where's it's at, it's so much easier than concepts on the computer and just a more efficient way of working really. Glad I've got them both.

Computer graphics just makes sense for me since I love art and computers.

I've always drawn bits of art when I was at school, I was intrested in Vector art before I even knew what it was... I was always trying to draw that kinda stuff.

I agree it's vital the get a rough idea of what you want down onto paper first if your looking to make a nice looking piece, I have used drawings to make a comic for a friend before, just colouring them in and lying them out in order...

This could actually get some nice disscusions going...

I agree completely with wo daddy there, we quite often get people asking for a sketch of a logo or whatever and for me it is hard to do, so I pass the buck to my wife on that front so we don't lose clientele, lol! She's the pro, I just help out after learning graphic and web design for fun while helping her achieve her masters last year...
