Well, the concept of my first photo manipulation/collage first hit me right when I saw the laptop and the butterfly. Inspired by the fact of freedom and life, I also imagined a colourful image in my collage. At first, I was going to have a simple result without a background even, just the laptop with many manipulations around it. However, my idea grew and I added the ivy, growing around it, repreasenting that it was old and forgotten; dead. Then you get a some lightness and life with the butterflies flying, the breathless sky and the colourful balloon. So the concept basically comes down to what the title says: Life still can live and escape where life isn't expected to survive. I tried to also go a little deeper and say how technology is beautiful, but deadly to us in certain ways.

Anyways, first, I took the laptop, duplicated the butterflies, positioned them to fly out, then grabbed the cloud stock, stuck it in, blended the balloon in with rendered clouds. I then found the ivy stock, cut it out and wrapped it around the laptop as if engulfing it, messing with blending modes, transformations, etc.. It seemed really plain, but I like the result of it so far. However, I decided to take it step further by creating a rough, sort of partchment background using brushes, clone stamps, gradients and the such. Then I ran some things over all if it to give it more of an 'old', grungy feel. Then, I decided I'd add a crack somewhere. Initially, I was going to give the keys on the laptop a good bang-up, but it was harder than I thought so I created a shattered effect on the screen. Then text. I was considering some better text/font, but I was much too lazy.
