I can comfortably say that nearly all of the users in this forum haven't gone to school for Photoshop and have picked up what they know along the way by either competing in graphic battles or by checking out tutorials either on the web or right here on Neo. As far as general tutorials of photoshop for the absolute beginning, I'm afraid most of those cost money. However, if you're that interested, Lynda.com is the industry standard for tutorials on Adobe Products. It can be relatively expensive, though, so if you don't much feel like paying the money you might want to look into other methods of getting the same videos for free. However, I don't think it's necessary for your general photoshoper.

Simply said just start playing with your new program. I find myself doing at least one tutorial off of Tutorialized a week as I nearly always learn new tricks in every one. Good luck!


Edit: One annoying thing about Tutorialized is that when you do click on a tutorial they maintain a huge header at the top for you leaving only about half the page for workspace. You can right-click on your tutorial and select View This Frame Only (or however it's stated) to get rid of that header to just view the website the tutorial is on. Sounds kinda' confusing right now but you'll see what I mean.

What are Smart Objects? I'm sure almost all PS versions has an option to convert to "Smart Objects".

You can also set text to follow a path. Use the pen tool to create your path (make sure paths is turned on in the options window and not shapes). Once done, take the type tool and click on the path.

This is a more precise way of bending and curving text.

Good good. Keep in mind that most people would be all, "wtf? extract filter? Why do then when you can just use the polygon lasso tool?" First off, I can see why they would say that. There are disadvantages to using the extract filter and, in different scenarios, are better ways. For example, what you're trying to cut doesn't contrast well with the background the you'll want to stick with the Pen tool as the Extract filter will have difficulty finding the edges and will be more trouble then it's worth. However, when cutting things out without using the Extract Filter the only excuse for not using Masks is ignorance. It's simply that much more powerful (not to mention much more professional) for just a smidge of extra work.

I'm pretty sure you can't do that. There may be some illegal way of transfering it, but I'm not totally sure. Just for the record, you can buy Photoshop CS on eBay relatively cheap.

Damn it...Anyway can't buy it, just bought a PS3
