No Free Movement?!

1up.com Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles updates state, "Once thought to be an extension of the Resident Evil 4 engine, Famitsu indicates we're getting something more in line with the Resident Evil: Dead Aim spin-off series, where the action takes place on rails and from a first-person perspective."

An IGN update says, "You have control over your path only at the occasional branch points in the stages. Everywhere else, you're on a fixed path, although you are free to look around."

Also on IGN: "Surprisingly, Capcom has opted to make a gun shooting game rather than a survival horror adventure."

Who else thinks this game will be a huge disappointment to most, if not all, Resident Evil fans? Why would Capcom decide on this?

re: No Free Movement?!

I think it is a great Idea, its like The House of the Dead with a crosshair and free look. I was just hoping earlier today that they would have a game like this.

At first, I was skeptical. But if Capcom pulls this off right, it could turn out to be a great game.

(especially if there's a co-op mode)

Co-op would be amazing. As long as it turns out better than the Survivor series, than I'm fine. With what I'm seeing, the visuals and audio are fantastic, and looking around adds to the suspense, and lack of HUD makes a great atmosphere.

If they do this right it won't be bad. I have never played this type of game and I'd like to see how it turns out in the end.

Like how they pulled off gun survivor right and made that a great game?

I just saw the game footage for the first time and wow, talk about suckage. Firstly, I think the FPS view sucks. But what sucks worse is the cross hair, it's like a House of the Dead ripoff, but for beginners because the crosshair is always there.

They should have at least allowed you to see your gun out in front of you like a traditional FPS.

And when are companies going to realize that a lack of free-roaming in todays age is a sure-fire way to completely blow the game?

Oh, come on. I'm a Resident Evil fan, this isn't what I want to play next. at all. If it was free control, heck yeah! But "on rails" !?

Heck no. Unless they pack-in a nice, slick magnum controller shell... but that won't happen!

re: No Free Movement?!

This game looks amazing, as long as they can make it shit in your pants scary, thats something I always wanted in HoTD. I would love to turn and see a zombie that can only be killed with quick reactions. RE4 failed to be scary, so I just hope they can do better in UC.

re: No Free Movement?!

This sucks big time the whole point in resi is that you control where you characters go, i mean in REmake the whole point was that if you came to a place with lots of Zombies you would brick yourself run back out the door regroup, get more ammo, choose a better weapon then go back in and pwn the zombies, this is just too forced for a resi game, but to be honest i could see this coming from resi 4.

You realise that they aren't even developed by the same people, right? These guys have pretty much nothing to do with Gun Survivor.

This could work out, really. I'm skeptical, but it could turn out to be a good game. I hear the main problem right now is a few framerate issues(which will hopefully be ironed out) and some poor zombie physics, so when you shoot a zombie it doesn't react too much. If they can fix that up, and really make the game fun, I might get it. I'm interested in the game, but I'm not sold on the idea just yet. It does look rather fun, however. I would have preferred being able to walk back and forth along the rails, a la Killer 7.
