I know this is probably old news, but I think we should kickstart this forum with something.

I'm psyched about this game, as "Clive Barker's Undying" scared the living shit out of me and I still play it despite the horrendous graphics. Barker really knows how to scare people and his novels are absolutely terrifying (don't judge Barker by the ok to horrendous Hellraiser movies). His novels (especially "The Thief of Always", "The Damnation Game" and "Sacrament") are creepy and sometimes downright terrifying to read.

However, "Undying" was a financial flop for EA, despite the immaculate critical reviews and downright top-notch quality of the game (average reviewer score was 9.5 out of 10 and it even made the list of PC Gamer's top 10 most frightening games of all time).

However, the game is being developed by Codemasters. Their track record is spotted (with pretty decent games like Second Sight). But what I'm most worried about is that they have almost no experience in the horror genre, and Barker's unique style of atmospheric, story-driven horror might be just beyond their grasp. I would have felt much more optimistic about the development of this game had it been in the hands of the DreamWorks team (the original developer of "Undying")...

But I relent. The first screens not only show off Barker's nightmarish imagination but also hint at some incredibly atmospheric gameplay that might elevate Codemasters from a mediocre and forgettable company to one of a top-notch, repsectable developer in the industry.

If Jerico is a hit, both critcally and commercially, then Codemasters might soon claim the mantle of horror that big names like Capcom and id have carried for years and I'll be glad to fork over sixty to seventy bucks for the experience.

Codemasters might. Their games aren't bad in the least. (I immensely enjoyed the ahead-of-it's-time IGI 2) but a good horror game is like good art. You have to hit the details just right. All jump moments is bad. All "kinda creepy lore" is also bad (the Blair Witch games is an example of this). The best horror game strikes a balance between the two (like the fascinating Silent Hill and RE games)

Even if the game is only half as good as "Undying" that'll still be a damn good game.

Hey the Codies are amoung some of the oldest British video game developers, releasing tons of budget games when production values weren't in the millions. I think I read their next gen engine has been developed in house and it's being used in Dirt! which looks quality fun.
