How come the scientist will not go to the cell to open it? If he does go to the cell he just stands there and does not open it. What can I do to get it open?

It's because you tripped up somewhere along the path. There are 2 responses to being seen, one is that he bolts and the alarm is set off, the other is him standing at the door but not opening it. Take your time moving through the maze, the scientist will wait for you at a discreet distance

I have the same problem, no matter how many times I try to follow this guy unseen, he either catches me, and I shoot him, or we get to the door, and he just stands there until I get pissed and shoot him. So I should just keep trying?? I thought if he sees you, he freaks out each time... I thought I had a glitch in the game from him not going through through the door. (I was afraid my cheat device was messing the game up.) I guess I will have to see if my boyfriend can get through if I still can't get past this part- He has never played this game, but sometimes when I am stuck in a random game he can get past where I can't. (Must be the different playing styles?)

I was stuck on this part for about 3 months too. But I found a way through it. I'll walk through this the best I can, bear with me, this is my first post.

Level stars, wait and shoot guy in the head with 9m, get his gun, walk slowly down the stairs and hide behind the wall. Wait till the next dude comes out stands for a second and get a head shot on him. It doesn't matter if you can still see the scientist or not, just take your time and line up your shots.

Walk forward, get shotgun if needed. Stay on the right side. You should now see the 2 guards standing on either side of the hall with the scientist walking between them. DON'T SHOOT THEM OR ANYTHING, THEY WILL NOT SEE YOU. Keep on the right side crouching and walking towards them. Just when you're about to walk into them, turn right. A guard should be walking down the hall in front of you or just turning left depending on how fast you are going. Let him turn left and slowly follow, and shoot him in the back of the head.

Now go forward and turn, and the next left, you should come into a room with the stairs going up. Stay to the right and walk under the stairs. Go to the right here. You may see the blue blip on the radar of the scientist here. Go forward, you should see a metal grate blocking the path just ahead. Turn left here, Go forward a little ways and sit and wait for the scientist. He will show up, then he'll stand there for a little while and then walk toward the door and open it up, don't shoot him, don't get to close. You should only be close enough to see him. Let him walk into the room and you should go to the cut scene. Then be prepared for a HUGE FIREFIGHT. I think this level is hardest or second hardest of all the Syphon Filter games.

Okay a quick recap,
from the beginning, shoot guard, go left, shoot next guard, make the next available right, make sure not to do anything to the 2 guards, THEY WILL NOT SEE YOU, UNLESS YOU RUN BY, go left, then the next left, go right under the stairs, you will see the blocked way ahead, go left there and sit and wait. Let him open the door and that should be it. If this doesn't work I would say your game is defective, it works every time for me.

Hope this helped. When you beat this game I would suggest getting SF2, it kicks even more but, is harder in some parts. I would also suggest SF3, its a bit easier.

Hey! Thanks so much for taking the time to write that! I will be sure to try it. I actually do own 2 and 3 as well, but have put them aside until after I beat 1. I recently got a PS2, and have been playing Blood Omen 2... I plan to go back to Syphon Filter really soon though! Gotta try this your way!

I had that same problem but I just walked around and came back.

aww me i used my smoke grenades to get past the two gaurds the only hard part is hitting them and not the scientist with them
