Tiger Woods 2007 Board FAQ

Welcome to the Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2007 Board FAQ!
(Original found at GameFAQs.com)

In this topic I will attempt to answer some commonly asked questions found on the board. I created this topic because this board can be pretty inactive, and many questions can be easily answered, so hopefully others can get the answers they need here without having to wait upwards of a day or two for a response.

I would like to thank a few people, HETS, gerg, Rudiger, and chuckpablo from GameFAQs.

Keep in mind that this Board FAQ is for the PS2 version of TW 2007. While there are similarities in the games across the different consoles, there are also a few differences. I make no promise that any of the information in this Board FAQ applies to any game other than Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2007 for the Playstation 2 console.

There are also more than 30 Fantasy Golfers, some of which are returning from previous games, some of which are completely new to the series. Of the returning players, the most notable are Moa Ta'a Vatu (Big Mo), Solita Lopez, and Yosh. I don't see the need to list every single Fantasy player for this game, as no one has ever been interested in them as far as I've seen.

NEW GAMEPLAY MODES

Team Tour - A single player format that allows the gamer to play against many different opponents in team events of various formats. At the beginning your team consists only of you, further along in the Team Tour you'll be allowed to recruit team members, resulting in a maximum of four players on your team (you and three chosen team members). Once you defeat a team in Team Tour you can recruit members from their team to come play for you.

Elimination - Two players pick up to 8 golfers for their "team," and play each other in a single-elimination hole-by-hole match. Once a player loses a hole with one of their team members, that member is eliminated. If there is a tie on a hole, both members advance to the next. The winner is declared when one player has no more team members left.

One-Ball - A very unique format that is completely new to the TW series. Two opponents will share one ball, and play out a hole. The player who holes out with the ball wins the hole. On each shot, the ball must travel at least half of the current distance to the hole, indicated by a blue circular ring that has the hole as its focal point. The concept is to leave your opponent with as bad of a shot as possible, but stay within the blue perimeter. If a player fails to keep the ball in the perimeter, then he receives a "Betrayal" and loses one of his turns. If the player hits the ball OB, then he receives a Double Betrayal, losing two of his turns. This may sound confusing at first, but play around with it and you'll pick it up quickly. The match is scored in a Match Play format, with the team winning the most holes winning the match.

Team One-Ball - Exact same format as One-Ball, except that there are four players total, paired into two teams. Team mates alternate turns on their team's turn.

Greensome - Played just like an alternate shot match (two two-man teams), except that both team mates hit a tee shot, and the team "captain" picks which one to play. After the tee shot is selected, normal alternate shot rules apply to the match. This allows one player to play safely, and another team mate to play a more risky shot, with the possibility of a greater reward than the "safe" route.

Bloodsome - Exact same format as Greensome, except that the other team's captain picks which tee shot their opponents play. This places pressure on both team mates to hit a decent tee shot.

NEW GAMEPLAY FEATURES

Tutorial - While not necessarily a new feature, they've decided this year to allow simple access to the game's tutorials about various new features, game modes, and the swing/putting styles. There are tutorials for: Standard/Alternate Swing methods, Full/Half shots, Flop/Punch/Pitch/chip shots, "Ball in Stance" (applied backspin/overspin before the shot is hit), Power Boost, Spin Control, Standard/Alternate Putting methods, Skills 18, Elimination, Bloodsome/Greensome and One Ball.

Game Options - There are a few new game options as well.

Swing Style - Allows you to set your preferred Swing method (Standard/Alternate).

Putting Style - Allows you to set your preferred Putting method (Standard/Alternate).

Speed Play - Allows you to toggle Speed Play ON/OFF. Speed play allows you to skip the post-shot animations by pressing the R1 button, allowing for (brace yourself) faster play.

Assisted Hole-Outs - No, this isn't tap ins. Assisted Hole Outs is just what it sounds like, it makes it easier to hole out a shot from anywhere on the course. You still need to hit good shots, but the hole seems to have a magnet inside it when this feature is turned on. There is a downside though, using the Assisted Hole Outs feature will screw with you ability to use Power Boost (by "screw with" I really mean "completely prevent").

Difficulty Options - This allows you to adjust the overall difficulty of the game. Note that these changes only apply to Traditional Game Modes, and not to Team Tour events, Real Time Events, or PGA Tour events.

Master Difficulty - Allows you to adjust all of the difficulty settings in one option, you can choose from Easy/Medium/Hard/Expert/Custom.

Swing Difficulty - Allows you to adjust the difficulty settings for the following ranges of clubs: Driver/Woods, Long Irons, Short Irons, Putter.

Environment - Allows you to adjust the harshness of the elements and the golf course itself. The following settings can be adjusted manually: Green Speed, Green Hardness, Fairway Speed, Rough Length and Wind.

AI Opponents - Allows you to adjust the skill level of your computer opponents in the following areas: Power, Accuracy and Recovery.

Gameplay Aids

Yardage to Pin indicator - Off/On
Swing Aid - Off/Single color/Dual color
Club Distance - Off/On
Wind Indicator - Off/Direction + Speed/Direction Only
Lie Indicator - % and Elevation/Elevation only/Off
Aiming Zoom - Off/On
Power Boost - off/Easy/Hard
Putting Aids - Off/On

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1) How do I use these modifiers to increase my stats to 11?

Rudiger
Modifiers are the square, brass-looking tags with icons on them. You get them by upping the ante in team tour or buying level 2 or better equipment with tags on them. To use/move them, go to your team page; choosing "game face" from the main menu is one way to do this. Then choose "my skills," then press square. This page has a list of all owned items on the left with your equipped stuff sorted to the top. The right side has a list of modifiers and indicates how many you have on *equipped* items and how many extras you have. You can't tell how many are on unequipped items without browsing the equipment list on the left.

Note there are ten sets of tags listed on the right, but your character can only use the first nine. The tenth is the so-called exploding club modifier, and it is reserved for a few fantasy characters in team tour mode. Trust me, or better yet trust gerg666, it is not important.

By selecting equipment on the left, you can cycle through the four modifier slots on any item. As you cycle through, the modifier status will be updated on the right. The idea is to set them so you have four of each modifier on your currently equipped items. So you want to cycle them "off" for unequipped items, and cycle them "on" for equipped items. They can be in any combo: Your power can be two on your socks, one on your hat, and one on your driver, and it will be just as effective as if they were all on your driver. Any more than four provides no additional benefit. If you don't have enough to add four of each to equipped items, browse the pro shop for high level equipment. You can buy an item, re-equip your old item, then move the new item's tag(s) to it.

Four modifiers equals one extra point in the corresponding attribute. On player select screens, I don't think the extra point will show up until you have ten normal points in the attribute. For example, if your power is nine and you have four modifiers, it will still show as nine. When you get the normal points to ten, it will start showing as 11.

Your best total attribute rating will be 99. This is ten normal points for each of nine attributes plus one point each for having four modifiers on each of nine attributes (9 attributes x 11 pts max per attrib = 99 pts). This is the equivalent of having 110% across the board in TW04 and TW05. [/i]

2) What are the differences between the Standard/Alternate Swinging/Putting methods?

The Standard swing allows you to shape the ball with your swing path. A down-leftish-to-uprightish action will produce a draw (a right to left shot), the opposite swing path will produce a fade action on the ball (a left to right shot). You can use the other stick to apply backspin (makes the shot fly higher and with less roll/more backspin) by positioning the dot lower on the ball. You can also use it to apply overspin (or "top" spin as it's commonly referred to), overspin cause the shot to fly lower and increases the roll out after it hits the ground. This allows for a more "feel" in your shot, considering your swing will directly affect the ball flight.

The Alternate swing allows you to shape the ball with the "shape stick" as seen in TW 2006. You still position the cursor on a higher/lower part of the ball to affect spin rate, but you also position it left/right to create a draw/fade (respectively). You can of course use a combination of these to create a low/medium/high draw/fade as you see fit. The actual swing stick only cause to actually hit the ball (if you're off line a little, you'll either push the ball; a shot that starts to the right of the target line, or pull the ball; a shot that starts a left of the target line).

I personally prefer the standard method, as it allows more feel for what you're doing, as opposed to having a perfectly straight swing to work in conjunction with where you've positioned the cursor on the ball.

The Standard putting method gives you the elevation of the hole in relation to where your ball lies, and shows a putting grid with "falling dots" that show you where the ball will break to (the faster the dots are falling, the more break there is on the putt). It's difficult to explain, but it's very similar to the Hot Shots/Eagle Eye golf putting grid.

The Alternate putting method gives you a caddie tip (similar to the 2004 putting method), in which you interpret a tip like "2 feet right, four inches past the hole," and apply it to where you aim the ball. The caddie tips in this game are utter crap. They tend to be wrong, and not always by a little bit.

I prefer both of the Standard methods, I suggest you try both and figure which ones are best for you. I highly advise against using the Alt putting method though, as it's often wrong.

3) My Power Boost doesn't work! What is happening? How can I fix it?

The problem lies in the new Assisted Hole-Outs feature in the game. When it is turned on, it affects Power Boost, rendering it innefective. It seems that you have to choose between one or the other. Popular demand seems to side with the Power Boost. Once you turn off the Assissted Hole-Outs feature, saved the settings and reset your PS2.

4)What are these extra modifiers?

These seemingly useless "exploding clubs" modifiers can only be utilized by three fantasy golfers; Big Mo, Solita Lopez, and Yosh. You can place these on Big Mo's driver to increase his driving distance. You can place these on Solita Lopez' irons to give her a perfect lie from anywhere on the course. And you can place these on Yosh's putter to allow him a greater chance to sink putts. How exactly these modifiers affect Yosh's putting is still somewhat of a mystery. If we get confirmation on the subject, I'll post it in an update. gerg666 has tested some on this subject: "As for Yosh, he doesn't seem to have any big, swooping breaks where the putting line looks like a rainbow. The break seems to only happen in the last 2-3 feet of long putts. The line will be straight but aimed 2 feet left with the break taking place just short of the hole. It may just be that I haven't had any "rainbow" putts though. I'll test this theory and do my best to post by tomorrow if this true or not."

These can't be used by your created golfer in any way, shape, or form.

5) I'm playing but I'm not earning experience!

You can only be awarded with Experience by playing Team Tour, Real Time Events, and PGA Tour mode.

6) Why am I not receiving Power experience?

Power experience is difficult to come by. You can only receive it for hitting drives further than 300 yards. This is a bit of a catch-22 because without a decent power stat, you won't be reaching these kinds of distances off the tee most of the time. My advice is to use your General experience on your Power stat until you can start hitting enough long drives to accrue Power Experience. You can also earn a little Power experience by winning Long Drive Contests in RTEs.

7) Why can't I play the first event in PGA Tour mode?

It is impossible to play the very first event of your Rookie year in PGA Tour mode. It is an event only for winners of a tournament from the previous year, and since your golfer is a Rookie, he couldn't have won an event the previous year. Nothing you did in previous Tiger Woods games have any effect on your eligibility for this event. You can't play it. Period.

8) Why do I have only 95% in Team Tour mode?

There's a little give and take in this one as well. For the final Team Tour events, against Tiger's Team, you must win the first two events to be able to achieve 100% in Team Tour mode. This is kind of a downer because this doesn't allow you to face off against Tiger one-on-one. If you drop either the first or second match to play against Tiger in the third match, the most you can get is 95% complete in Team Tour. It kind of stinks, because we all like to play against Tiger, but you need to make a decision on what you'd rather have, 100%complete in Team Tour, or the pride in beating Tiger in the third match.

9) Wait, I can't hit my Driver off the deck?

Nope. You can only use a driver off the tee in this game, no using it on the fairways. Sometimes the commentary will tell you to pull out the big dog while in the fairway, this is an oversight by the designers.

10) No fans/galleries? But the commercial showed...

Nope. You can only find huge galleries in the PS3 and X Box 360 versions.

11) All my Real Time Events (RTEs) are locked! What do I do?

First off, make sure it's not all of them. RTEs are just that, events that are opened up based on what time it is. The problem is that this goes by your PS2 internal clock. If your clock is set for a time before the date of the first RTE, then they will all be locked an unavailable. Conversely, if you set your internal clock to a date after the last RTE, then they will all be accessible.

12) I chipped in for Eagle and it said Out of Bounds! It also scored me for a birdie! What the hell?

This is a commonly experienced glitch that has been present in the last 3 installments of Tiger Woods games. EA has yet to fix it, and there isn't much you can do about it. At least it doesn't actually make you replay the shot. It happens rarely, and is doesn't seem to show up in Multiplayer mode. This also only seems to happen with the Pitch and Chip shot selections, or on the tee of a par 3.

13) I've met the requirements for a Trophy Ball, but I don't have the TB!

This is another huge issue with TW games, sometimes you simply will not be rewarded for your efforts with a Trophy Ball that you deserve. The only advice that I can give you is to keep playing, and that you will eventually be rewarded with them.

14) Can I import my created character from a previous TW title to this year's game?

Absolutely not.

15) How can my friend/spouse/kid and I play a PGA Tour Event at the same time?

When one player attempts to start a new tournament (you can't jump in during the middle rounds of a tournament) the game will prompt you to choose how many guests you want, and then you can choose how many guests you want to play with. It will then give you the option to load a profile for the Guest. This is the only way to earn experience for two different profiles at the same time. You can't play Match Play tournaments with a guest.

-----

16) How can I change the loft on my Driver?

First off, go to your In the Bag menu. Since you can only have 14 clubs at a single time, and your Driver is required, you need to first take another club out of your bag (your 3 wood, for example), then select the driver with the loft that you desire, take out the old driver which you no longer want, and put the 3 wood back in your bag.

17) Is there a Titleist sponsorship in this game?

No.
