This is an idea for a rather laid-back, tongue-in-cheek RP, something to let us have a little bit of fun and keep our fingers in the RP pie until we're ready to get back to serious RPing.
If there is enough interest, I'll pull together an actual rules list. At this point, the idea is that there will not be any magic, any super-weapons, no ninja-style gung-ho warriors, or other over-the-top characters. The RP will be built around 6 to 8 pre-designed characters, most of whom are mentioned in the teaser, and possibly one or two original characters. It will be rated E-PM, and permission to create an original character will be granted only to specific persons.
At any rate, here's the teaser/basic story line. I'll wait to hear what you think. Many eons ago, lost among the legends of the distant future, is the tale of a great Quest. The Quest was both a rescue mission and a journey of discovery, as four mighty heroes defied a terrible evil and reached forth to claim their individual and collective destinies. In the powerful and affluent land of Sillinestia, the beneficent
King Gneisgei the First reigned over a prosperous, industrious and contented people. Life was good and generally uneventful, allowing for the occasional earthquake, flood, drought, barbarian invasion or other minor nuisance.
At the center of the Land of Sillinestia towered the great Lost Mountain. The largest of three adjacent peaks dominating an otherwise low ridge of forested hills, Lost Mountain was a dormant volcano whose peak disappeared into the clouds adorning the clear blue skies above the vast Barren Valley. Nearly 46,000 feet above the valley floor, the volcanic crater hosted a great lake, two miles wide and three-quarters of a mile deep, filled with ice cold, pure water from the great snow caps that adorned the crater walls.
Down the Southern Slope of the volcano cascaded small streams escaping the lowest points of the lake's limits. These rivulets tumbled merrily down the mountainside, joining one after the other to form the headwaters of the Dusty River. To the East, the smaller Gulch River found its roots in the same icy waters.
Charging down the slopes of Lost Mountain, the Dusty followed a torturous route, across many deep crevices and steep escarpments, until it finally thundered into the valley floor and raged away to the South East. The mighty Dusty gave drink to all of the Barren Valley, a rich, lush plain of fertile land that produced generous crops year after year to feed the people of Sillinestia.
Yet, in the midst of this idyllic land, the Lost Mountain hid a dark secret, a creature of mythological reputation, the very mention of whose name struck terror into the hearts of the Sillinestians, the terrible dragon
Halitosis Rex.Deep in the bowels of Lost Mountain, below the great crater lake, where the heat from the molten heart of the volcano still warmed his caves and lulled him to gentle slumber, legend stated that the dragon guarded a great treasure of horded jewels, silver and gold. Only a handful of brave souls had ever dared seek for the treasure, and none had returned from their ill-advised adventure.
An uneasy truce existed between the people and the dragon. It seldom left its lair, and its depredations were modest. The occasional herdbeast would disappear, along with the occasional treasure wagon. This was nothing to raise a great alarm over, or so the brave people insisted.
Finally, one dark and stormy night, the event all of Sillinestia had dreaded occurred. The dragon attacked a great treasure train, seizing only two small wagons in its lighting-fast raid. Unfortunately, only one was a treasure wagon. The second carried the good king's daughter, the breathtakingly beautiful (and incredibly lazy)
Princess Vanitia. Whether intentional or accidental, Halitosis Rex now held the greatest treasure in all the land in his evil clutches.
The devastated king called for a company of valiant souls to rescue his beloved daughter. From all of Sillinestia, only four answered the call, but an alliance of more courageous heroes had never before or since joined forces. The famous knight
Sir Percival Longlance, with his valiant charger Equinuus the Noble led the party. At his side rode the infamous mercenary
Felonia, to some a great scout and spy, to others not much more than a common thief. Third came the priest
Sanctimonium, a humble and devoted cleric determined to rid Sillinestia of the scourge of the demonic beast.
Completing the small party was an elf,
Teminore Leafcutter, from the lands beyond the western sea. No one knew why he had joined the quartet of adventurers, but his stealth, skills of observation and proficiency with bow, sword and dagger were warmly welcomed.
Not sure of where they were going, uncertain of what they would find, not knowing what fate awaited them, the four heroes plotted their course, filled their saddlebags and rode off to the East, into the rising sun, and into the pages of legend.

'Enough already!'It appears that this RP concept is generating some interest. The following major characters have been claimed or reserved:
Halitosis Rex - Keiichi
Felonia - Legend Hunter
Princess Vanitia - Bratty and Proud
Sir Percival Longlance - Krimson Dragon
Sanctimonium - Wyvern Knight Zero
Teminore Leafcutter - Solar Boy DjagoAdditionally,
Irish Gamer has indicated interest, although he has not yet chosen a character.
To make this work, we will need at least two female RPers, as two of the major characters are female. No, I don't like cross-gender RPing, I don't find it very genuine, but I'll put up with it if there is no alternative. So, if any of you has a female RP associate you can recruit, you have my blessing. Get them to PM me.
If we keep moving forward at this pace, we could be up and running by early next week.
