	I'm honestly surprised no one has thrown up a Mass Effect rp yet. Would there be any interest in something like that, because I kind of want to join one/make one if necessary. Assorted races against the Reaper threat, black ops style while Shepard is stealing all the spotlight, we could totally make something happen. ------------------- False hope leads to true despair, watch how quickly white turns to black.

	A Mass Effect role play would be interesting. I was thinking about doing one, but I really couldn't think of too many ideas. I could use a fanon styled post-story I was gluing together in my head... Has to deal with an indoctrinated Shep, space still being invaded by reapers, and the galactic forces still struggling to survive against them. 	Why can't people leave games and books and movies and manga and anime and cartoons and comics that they like alone? Don't ruin it by trying to make it better, or different. Sure, there's mileage in running an alernate version of events where whatever thing happened differently, or didn't happen at all, but... I'm not much of a fanfic dude, I guess... BANDWAGON! This game called Mass Effect is pretty popular, people seem to like it and play it, so then I will ruin it for everyone else by putting my spin on things. And change the ending. I'm happy to leave things well enough alone, most of the time. I am a dude of strong opinions when I'm not being mellow and slightly sarcastic. -------------------

	So you're arguing against feature rp's in general Scott Cee? Because they will somehow ruin everything? I'm not quite sure I follow your logic on this one, because it is rather easy to go "Well this RP is about Sephiroth and Cloud running a bakery, maybe I don't want to join it." No one is being forced to see what's going on, they're not so weak willed that the instant they read an alternative ending their brain is completely rewritten with it. In regards to Mass Effect, the majority opinion is that the ending was garbage, even Bioware has come out and said that they'll be changing the ending because of this. In instances like that, why not come up with your own ending? Anyway, all we really need to make this work Tiger go Meow is a planet, a Reaper, and a plausible enough excuse to have a special forces type unit on said planet. Then the plot would be a simple, we need to figure out how to kill giant space machine of death. Maybe have smaller objectives leading up to that. I'm wondering about how the Drell normally act, I'm not sure Thane can be taken as a good example of the race. 	It's a personal opinion. There is no logic to it, in the same way that there is no logic behind racism. Some people, no matter what you say, are racist. Some people, namely me, don't like people changing things because they are too lazy to make up their own characters and settings, for no logical reason other than the fact that I think they are too lazy to make up their own settings and characters. It's an entirely circular arguement, and an opinion I am entitled to hold whether it actually makes sense or not. You can't really make a reasoned and structured arguemnt to oppose it, because it's not an opinion I hold based on logic and reason in the first place. Also, I haven't even played the game in question! I was thinking about editting my post with a rebuttal to my own point of view which amounts to basically "if you don't like this kind of thing you don't have to read/watch/play it", which is essentially what you say, but then I didn't because I forgot. I have never joined a Feature RP. And I have written only two. One of these you can see floating around right now with precisely no joiners, and the other was a Star Wars KotOR 3 idea I had years ago. Some guy got on my case because my Reven was not of canon gender. To which I replied that nothing that would happen in the RP would be canon either, so what did it matter? I have a whole thing to rant about changing things based on popular opinion, but I'll be bottling that one up for a while to see how it gets on. It ultimately boils right down to "being popular (or unpopular) is not the same as being good (or bad)". Excellence by popular vote? X number of people can't be wrong? 	Scott Cee, speaking of original RP's, I have been working on an idea with Harpie Lady. It's a modern setting with a lot of sci-fi and urban fantasy overtones. I was originally inspired by the open-world crime dramas of Grand Theft Auto and Mafia, but I've decided to expand it from a crime drama RP to a modern adventure RP with many factions of many stripes. I'm thinking of including all sorts of cool things in the vast setting, from many different sources and genres, a Fantasy Kitchen Sink as TV Tropes would put it. The setting is the fictional state of West Tacoma, the 51st State of the Union, circa Present Day. Most of the setting is centered around the cities of Metro City (Based off of Washington DC and parts of Virginia and Maryland), Verona City (Based off of New York City, Boston, and parts of New Jersey), and Serenity Bay (Based primarily off of Los Angeles and San Francisco), but there is a vast geography full of unique areas that can't be pinned down to any one region of the United States (or the world for that matter). West Tacoma is a place where anything can and will happen. I'd like some help in building and promoting this RP, and I have a few ideas of what all will be featured, but a unifying plot is the key issue, something solid enough to be accepted, but still very vague at the same time. The state of West Tacoma is a place that is everywhere and nowhere all at once, oh, and Bruce Campbell is the Governor. Here's some of the gangs and factions I want to include. Some are original, a few come from real life or from other sources, and they all have their own goals and motives. The Wiseguys: An Italian gang modeled heavily after the old-school Mafia, The Wiseguys typically don't deal in drugs, similar to the pre-1970's Mafia, but are steeped in gambling, pimping, extortion, nightclubs, and jewelry smuggling. The Red Hand: An Eastern European criminal organization similar to the Russian Mafiya, except they allow women to be full members and are a little more high-tech. They deal in gunrunning, pimping, fraud, and drugs. Steel Dragons: A gang of misfit youths with a cyberpunk and anime-inspired style, the Steel Dragons ride around on fast Japanese motorcycles and fight The Man. Comprised of Bosozoku, Ninjas, and Cyberpunks. The Bikers: Typical One-Percenters who ride Harleys and live hard. Enemies of the Steel Dragons. The Wutai Syndicate: An East Asian criminal organization similar to the Triad and Yakuza gangs, with origins in Imperial China. The O'Brien Boys: An old-timey Irish gang that are the chief enemies of the Wiseguys, alongside the Red Hand. The Homeboys: Urban gangbangers from the inner city areas of West Tacoma, the Homeboys roam the slums of the cities, and are usually too disorganized to form full criminal empires, but can be valuable allies to other gangs. They often act as extra muscle or mercenaries to other groups. Their main enemies are The Steel Dragons and The Wiseguys. El Quivera: A mysterious organization in West Tacoma. On the surface, El Quivera seems like a South American Cartel, but the cartel is a front for a strange Central American death cult dating back to the time of the Aztecs. Deimos Corporation: An extremely powerful elite megacorporation, with assets both legal and illegal. The Tribals: A tribe of humans with primitive technology found in rural West Tacoma. Have lived there since the Prehistoric Era. Mainly consisting of brave warriors, cavemen, savage assassins, wise Shamans, and beautiful Amazonian warrior women. The Roman Brotherhood: A heroic organization that emulates the glory of Ancient Rome and follows the old Pagan Gods and Goddesses of Rome, the Roman Brotherhood is part religious order, part band of vigilantes, and part revolutionary group. Branded as outlaws by the authorities, the Roman Brotherhood are admired by the downtrodden, but have a lot of internal struggles. Ghostwood Chapel: Church Militants that seem to be an amalgation of every major Christian denomination, these well-intentioned extremists want to bring morality to West Tacoma, but tend to go about it in dubious manners. The Cult of Crimson: A bizzare cult of demon-worshippers. The Police: Various law enforcement agencies in West Tacoma. The US Army: Self-explanatory The Enclave: Borrowed from Fallout, it's a shadowy conspiracy in the US Government. (And those are just the human organizations)

	I was going to make a RP about Sephiroth and Cloud running a bakery, how dare you people steal my idea. I don't have a problem with Feature Role Plays as long as they don't try to "remix" the material it is based on. For me playing something after ME3 would be more acceptable than something during the events of ME3 that goes along with it. Gives you more freedom, while not having to affect the original content. Plus, there's plenty of fanon out there now for ME3 given the large displeasure with the ending. So tons of crap to work from! YAY I need to chill out. ------------------- Say "ahh~"

That's at least eleven of those factions' members you'll have to play as NPCs, if everybody picks a different one to join. Enough about the setting and the dudes in it, what about the story? It's open world, yeah, but give the people an option to do whatever they want they'll do one of two things: Nothing at all. Kill a bunch of other dudes. Conflict is drama, sure, but... guns and magic and elves and robots and mutants and shadowy government agents. It's interesting enough in a way, but... there doesn't seem to be a focus? 	The thing about sandbox stuff is that it only works in an environment when "doing whatever you want" would normally be impossible. For example, video games. Without programming skills of your own, or a clever friend, you can't ever go beyond what the game was programmed to do so when you get a big game like Fallout or The Elder Scrolls that's "open world" it feels special because you aren't limited to moving left and jumping. And even in these games, you still can't really do whatever you want (again, barring programming skills of your own) because the game's programming is still limited. It's just that those limits, through countless hours of labor on behalf of the game's makers, have been radically expanded to include more freedoms but not really all freedoms. Calling a piece of writing open world, then, seems very silly to me. In a video game I can only do what has been pre-made to be done so again, when there are a lot of things to be done it feels more free and that feeling is special. In writing, if I can put it down in words then it can be said to have happened. It really is open in that sense, so specifically referring to an open world RP seems unnecessary to me. *I have thought what I just said through so if you spot an obvious hole in my statement, I am likely aware of it and am simply choosing not to acknowledge it for the sake of discussion. I am also not trying to be "down" on anyone or anything and am simply sharing some thoughts I had. Tee hee. D'you like that, up there? 	Sand Box Role-Plays are not an impossibility. In fact they are more do-able than a Sand Box game. The main issue in a Sand Box styled RP is getting members who will actively take part and build their own stories instead of having one already constructed for them. This is a big part of what I tried to do with Narashita and Animu the Holic. But honestly, if people won't interact with one another how can something on a more social level progress and keep people entertained? You see this style of RP in chatrooms a lot. Here is a forest. These are the people playing in this forest. Now interact with them. But when people won't interact the story just, well, stagnates and the "sand box" fails. Players just have to be willing to take initiative and do something instead of being told what is expected from them at the very start. This is pretty much the concept Neo the World is built around. All I'm doing is offering to build the ground work in which all of the social Role Play will go on within. It will be up to the members to form clans/guilds/etc and to create relationships and build businesses and created story by interacting with one another. It's not a very tough concept to really wrap one's mind around... At least I don't think it is. ------------------- Say "ahh~"
