As the dreary sky drizzled rain upon the land below, a cloaked figure walked slowly through one of the filthy streets of the tainted town. Their stride was smooth and elegant, and they almost seemed to float along the ground; not out of place among others in Soard, something of a typical sight. Hugging close to the walls of the dilapidated buildings, the figure entered an alleyway, intending to pass through it to the next street.
Sylvia's hand strayed almost instinctively to the sheathed weapon hidden beneath the folds of her cloak as she entered the deeper shadows. It was not the first time that she had traveled through Soard, and tedious as usual. In fact, were it not for the rumors, she would never have come close to the shady, pathetic town in the first place.
Life had been so boring for her- it seemed like ages since the last bit of excitement she had. She had turned to dabbling in tavern and alleyway gossip to find something that could spark her interest, though it normally wasn't her style. However, it turned out that veering from the norm had worked out- after entering the lobby of an inn at Riot's Edge, she had caught snatches of discussion about the attack on Reimoorse. That didn't particularly interest her until the topic wandered to the construction of a guild.
Geist, was it called? She couldn't quite remember.
With such little to do constructively with her time, she figured that it might be worth it to travel to Soard, which was where the rumors had led her. It occurred to her chasing rumors had never yielded any results.
Then again, chasing rumors was something that she had never done to begin with. Coming to the edge of town, she blinked wearily at the sad state of the area's plant-life.
"Well, scenery is meant to match its inhabitants, I suppose."
She was about to walk away before a sign caught her eye. It was difficult to tell just what it was about it that made her linger. Resting a hand on the worm-eaten wood, she scanned over the faded letters. Rabbit Trail. Looking past the sign, she tracked with her eyes the ribbon of trodden vegetation that scrolled away through the sickly trees, and finally, up a hill. However, she couldn't see the top of the hill clearly through the sheets of rain. She placed one foot upon the trail- then another, beginning to walk at the same steady pace she had used in the actual town. Perhaps she would find something, perhaps not; but her intuition told her that examining where the trail ran could potentially lead to something worth her time- foolhardy or not.
Less chance of being mugged by a cultist, anyways.

re: Adore: Shades of Black {~M~}

Sylvia's dark eyes were bitter and accusatory under the shadow thrown by the lip of her drenched hood. She tried hard not to look at the headless corpse, but her eyes seemed to almost move without her discretion.
Crossing herself clumsily in her haste, she murmured a brief prayer under her breath and turned away. Though she was not particularly religious, it felt somehow necessary- considering the proverbial hell that the victim had apparently gone through.
"I'm not done with you yet." she snapped abruptly- finding something to take her mind off of the corpse. Her voice was gruff- fueled by her anger over what the killer had probably done to his female victim before finishing her off.
It occurred to her that it well could have been- and probably was- the work of Adore. Just the thought of the sadistic and disgusting organization made her even angrier. While her mind pondered the evil guild, she was reminded of exactly why she had come to Soard.
Geist? Gest? Again, her memory had turned its back on her. Perhaps she should have written it down.
"Tell me what you know about the formation of a guild." she said flatly- staring coldly at Arachnid and speaking with a voice that failed to betray her gender. Rather than asking the question, she opted out for demanding the answer. It was something she had learned from past experience with the 'street-rats' of Soard- asking nicely rarely yielded any kind of results.
"Well? Speak up." Sylvia spat- impatient and getting angry with each moment that ticked by. The rain wasn't helping. Soaking into the thick fibers of her cloak, it hung heavy over her shoulders. Her hand rested on the wrapped hilt of her short-spear- tensed and ready in case the situation called for drawing steel.

Sylvia watched Arachnid go- carefully turning over the information in her mind like it was a tangible thing. Of course, she knew where it was, but she wished that he could have given her more information. It was plenty to go on, but she didn't appreciate his distant and almost curt manner. She waited for Arachnid to get a-ways away before following the trail back to town. It wouldn't do to seem like she was tailing him. After he disappeared from view, she began to walk- more hurriedly than usual, as the rain was becoming a bit more than irksome. Looking up just in time to see a lightning bolt lance through an iron-grey thunderhead, she jumped slightly at the clap of thunder than tailed it. The speed at which it followed the lightning was alarmingly fast- meaning that the storm was close and preparing to roll right over the town. She made more haste- not particularly relishing the thought of being incinerated by a cloud-to-ground strike.
Once in town, she slowed her progress some- the buildings blocking the winds which had picked up. An old weather vane spun crazily, the aged metal squawking like the bird depicted. At long last, she came to Plums- one of the more well-kept buildings in the otherwise near-demolished town. Turning the door handle slowly to minimize sound, Sylvia slipped into the room unobtrusively. She took on the presence of an animated shadow- blending perfectly with her surroundings.
"Gray hair, hmm?" she muttered to herself, glancing around the dim room carefully. It had been a while since she had been in Plums, but the building had remained more or less unchanged. Her eyes fell on a splash of pale hair at one of the corner tables.
"That'll be him, I suppose." she said quietly, pulling her wet hood farther down over her eyes and approaching with a slow, dipping stride.

re: Adore: Shades of Black {~M~}

Sylvia hissed under her breath and looked away. It had been her original intention to be the first to ask questions. She was, after all, quite dominant in nature. Her gray eyes stony, she turned her line of sight on Lutious without moving her head. With a very stiff and distant posture, she coldly relayed her reply;
"I am Siv*, and my reason for wanting to join is my own business. As far as skills are concerned
" she paused, shifting the curtain of her cloak to one side to reveal her sheathed short-spear, "
I am the master of my own unique weapon and combat style. That among other things."
She let the fabric fall back into place with a wet rustle. It was still quite soaked, but she stubbornly kept it on. Removing it in front of strange men was against her own personal code and standards. Glancing to her right, she examined Weyland carefully. Though she didn't normally care to dabble into the business of others, she was somewhat curious as to what his response to Lutious's question would be. He appeared crippled- one of his arms, no less. What could he be thinking joining Geist? It was clearly no job for someone with that type of disability.
Exhaling with a slight rattle, she waited with as much patience as she was capable of for Weyland's information.
OOC//; *I decided to change it from 'Sylv'. Siv is much more masculine, and isn't as close to her real name XD

Sylvia instinctively flipped her chair over backwards, planting both hands and springing into a flip as she rolled over the back slats. Her move was not as graceful as she would have liked for want of less cumbersome attire, but it worked out and she landed lightly on her feet. Upon hearing the word 'Adore', her defensive stance immediately changed. Undoing the clasp that held her heavy cloak about her shoulders, she let it slide onto the floor. Her garment discarded, she felt much lighter. She would rather have not displayed all of her cards before she played them, but there was no element of surprise to be had now. Out of the corner of her eye, she caught movement by the door as the seated men rose.
"Well, isn't this lovely. I guess they were sent to kill us before we could do any real harm
" she spat to herself, cracking her knuckles in a very masculine message- that she was going to get serious.
Normally, she would have chosen a dagger for a bar-room brawl; or maybe one of her short-swords, but she instead decided to go all out for the first time in a while. The leather-bound shaft of her special weapon felt good under her ungloved hands, and she twirled it expertly while assessing her options. The area was too small to fight using the spear capabilities of her collapsible weapon, so she kept it locked together. Using her best weapon right off the bat might have been an unnecessary decision and it may not have been, but against members of Adore, she wasn't taking any chances. Holding her weapon out away from her body, she bent her arm and let the end of the spear droop down- giving the arrangement a similarity to a striking praying mantis. Her other shoulder was pulled back, arm bent lightly, completing her ready position. Had she been outside, she probably would have spit on the ground for the effect, but it was hardly an appropriate gesture in a building- not just for a woman but a man as well.

re: Adore: Shades of Black {~M~}

Fumbling with the clasp on her cloak front, Sylvia cursed under her breath. What had originally just been a point of interest in some backwards, broken town was turning into madness. Hooking the metal together on her cloak front after a minute of jerking it about, she let go and put away her weapon. The spear collapsed back in on itself with a metallic shuffle and slid easily back into the sheath. Looking back up to keep track of Lutious, she realized that she had been steadily falling behind while not focused on running. Putting on an extra burst of speed, she regained ground on him. Her long legs ate up the distance, and she was soon running neck and neck with Lutious.
"Where are we headed to?" she asked between gasps, "We can't just run like this forever."
That was true enough- she was already starting to lag again. The wet cloak was getting heavier with more rain and the wind acting against her; fighting to push her in the opposite direction.

re: Adore: Shades of Black {~M~}

Sylvia whistled softly, eyebrows raised.
"Canopie? Shit, you'd never even know this was here from the outside." she continued in an awed voice. The place was so set apart from everywhere she had ever been- the ruins and taint of Soard, the nauseating piety of Plume, and the overall drabness and discomfort of the other places. It was what had driven her to traveling in the first place. In Canopie, however, she felt removed from the grime of the streets she used to walk. It was, in essence, a magical feeling. Then, remembering what exactly had brought them there, she turned on her heel and looked Lutious square in the eye in her typical 'I-want-answers-now' manner.
"Okay, so we're here in Canopie. Why did we come here? Now what? I'm praying that you have some kind of plan."
Really, she wasn't hoping for anything that needed done. She wanted to know more about Canopie's 'bridge-life', as there appeared to be no 'streets' in the conventional sense. Being curious in her own way, she wanted to see if it was more than appearance that made Canopie such a nicer place than the other towns in the region. Perhaps, she could also find somewhere she could dry out her old cloak, or at least buy a couple new outfits to compensate for the clothes she had left behind in her makeshift residence in Riot's Edge. Her things had likely been stolen, for she had been gone much longer than she had intended to. Bad karma had to get her sometime, and what better way than to have another return the favor she had been giving out for years? Sylvia had stolen plenty of things herself and sold them. As a result, she did have quite a bit of money, which she kept close always. Her weapons were in need of a fresh, professional edge as well if she happened to come upon a blacksmith. It didn't really occur to her that shopping was often considered very much a 'girl thing'.Edit: Nov 03, 08

"Yeah. Got a coat rack?"
Sylvia swung her still-damp cloak from one hand. She had taken it off while seated and was glaring at Alaster, Cojisto, and Condor- daring them to look. Not really waiting for an answer, she simply hung it on her chair. That was answer enough for whether or not she intended to stay. She took her time self-touring the Guild Hall- admiring the woodwork.
"If you were going to speak to us, I can hear you from here." she remarked to Lutious, scratching at the wall with one finger, marveling at the smooth quality. Moving on to the rest of the foyer, she prodded at the couches. They seemed especially comfortable, but she didn't sit down. The Hall was the most lavish place she had ever been to short of the cathedral in Plume, but she found the newer, more friendly and relaxed place much more tasteful. Continuing her 'inspection', she moved to look at the stairs, delighted by their classy , impressive appearance. She was somewhat disappointed to find that it was wood, but she didn't really linger over it. All the while, she kept her ears tuned to the table where the others were sitting.

"You first, Siv."
Sylvia looked up from the detailed carving in the mahogany legs of a chair.
"I told you- I can hear you from here." she said, blowing a lock of hair out of her eyes and tapping a finger impatiently.
"Just get over here." Lutious said sternly, narrowing his eyes. Sylvia looked as if she were about to retort, but after seeing the look on his face, she decided not to take it any further. Straightening up slowly, she began walking languidly over to the table.
"Fine, have it your way." she replied with a very un-subtle roll of her eyes. Slouching into a chair, she put her chin on one hand- propping herself up on the table. Curiosity sparked some in her gray eyes- she was interested in her first mission, as much as she hated to leave Canopie. Resisting the temptation to drum her fingernails on the smooth surface, she put on a look of attentiveness.
"Well, now that I have your full attention
" Lutious began, "your mark is named Nikolas Curran, a Shiv in Adore- which is basically the lowest rank possible. He's in charge of a racketeering outfit based in Raithe. He's not the sharpest guy, but he knows his way around weapons pretty well. He and his lackeys are very interested in the new weapon being developed in Raithe- the 'pistol'. It's likely that he's planning to outfit Adore with pistols. Chances are, they'll be armed with them eventually anyways, but it can't hurt to stop him and cause a delay."
Sylvia rocked her chin back and forth on her palm in a lazy nod. Grabbing the cloak that was hanging on the back of the chair, she whipped it around herself- fastening it quickly. The material had dried out with surprising speed. Undoing the clasps on the sheath of her short sword, she let it drop to the floor.
"I don't think I'll be needing that." she said. For a moment, she lingered over the daggers. They really didn't take up any room- just a pair of small, slim-bladed knives. She decided that she would keep them handy. It's hard to say just when and where you would need a hidden weapon.
"Right, then- I'll get going. Try not to miss me too much."

"Alright, whatever." Sylvia muttered. She blew a lock of hair out of her eyes. Turning on her heel, she pushed open the door. The heels of her boots thumped lightly on the wooden walkways. However, rather than pull her hood up as usual, she let it flop down over her shoulders. It felt nice for her to not have to hide under it- for a while, at least. The clouds had lightened, and the rain had stopped. Thunder rumbled in the distance, quieter as the storm front moved on. Soon, the sun was shining again, and it made Canopie all the more beautiful. With the presence of sunlight filtering through the leaves, the entire area had a green tint to it.
"Too bad I have to leave
" she mused, taking a ramp that led to the forest floor. She rocked back ion her heels, looking around and trying to find where she had come from. Everything about the forest looked pretty much the same.
"In hindsight, a map would have been a great idea
"
Oh well. She wasn't going to turn back.
