CPU message

I keep getting a message that is telling me my CPU is not compatible. I am quite sure I can run the game. I have a P4 2.4 and it should handle the game easily, but I can't seeem to get the game running because of this message. Is there a patch of some sort that I need? If anyone could help me, I would appreciate it.

Thanks
SabbatGirl

re: CPU message

Hey there! Ok, having the same exact trouble here... however, do know that need to do the following:

"NOTE: If you are attempting to run Alpha Centauri and receive an error message which refers to a CPU or processor incompatibility, add the following line to the Alpha Centauri INI file using a text editor (such as Notepad): ForceOldVoxelAlgorithm=1
The first time that the game starts following this change you may receive the same error message. The game should start without error after it has been run once with the above change."

But... am having trouble finding the durn INI file to do this. Anyone have clue where this blasted thing is at???

Have you had any luck yet with yours?

Thanks!

re: CPU message

Alright then... after a beer, some music, and a wee bit of time, figured it out...

1. Insert your AC Crossfire CD into drive.
2. Attempt to play the Alpha Centauri game.
3. Close that down, say g'bye to the game.
4. Open Windows Explorer.
5. Find & then open the Firaxis folder - somewheres on the C drive.
6. Open [with right click using Notepad] the configuration file ending in ".INI".
7. In the last line of the commands [the one with the "ForceOldVoxelAlgorithm=0"], change the "0" to a "1".
8. Save that.
9. Close Windows Explorer, and all other programs that may be running.
10. Retry AC Crossfire - when the same durn message comes up saying your CPU is not supported, smirk at it, click yea sure, and then enter the planet... may take some time; but, then you can throw your head back and laugh at Bill Gates, Windows, Intel, etal... [and wish that the world ran on Mac's instead of Wintels... ]

re: CPU message

i had the same problem, and i thank you for getting my Alpha Centauri to work, but alien crossfire still doesnt work.

I click on terranx.exe or just use the autorun and click on it in that screen that comes up, but when it gets to the pic of the alien ship, it dissapears after like 15 sec and then nothing happens. i looked in the task manager and under "processes" i saw it, but after a few seconds it vanishes.

heres my comp:

WIN XP Pro
1.8 ghz intel P4
512 DDR
GForce 3 ti 200 64MBs (soon to be upgraded, come Xmas)
SB live! wave device
USB logitech headset
and some other crap i cant find.

plz help me get Alien Crossfire to work!

re: CPU message

God I know I'm really late but I just now got the game and am having the same problem KakonOfTransall did. Has anyone found a means of circumventing it in the last three years?

re: CPU message

No, this is the only fix that i know of.

I have a 2.4 P4 as well, and I wrote Firaxis support as soon as I got my board and fired up Alien Crossfire. They wrote me back and told me to change toggle that same algorithm in the .ini file.
So this info comes straight from the techs over there.

The "CPU Error" message will still come up, but you can safely say "OK" & ignore it.
I've NEVER had a lock up when playing this game that could be traced back to possible CPU incompatibility.

Finally, using this fix on Alien Crossfire has never failed on any adequate system that i know of. The change should fix your problems.
