The article about how adults should not own this game!
|
http://neoseeker.com/news/10166-mid-missouri-cybercops-warn-of-pedophiles-with-animal-crossing/i just want to say that this is outrageous. I am a 26 year old mother and i adore this game. i use it to take up time during the day. i bet if this cop played it he would be thinking otherwise. i can see why he is concerned but one bad apple does not spoil the bunch in this case. why assume all adults are this way and shouldnt own this game? ugh just irritates me.

Im not an adult yet but that is rediculous to say that no adults should be playing a game like animal crossing. animal crossing in my opion could be a game for people of all ages. a good friend of mine that plays this game is around 53 years old, I meat a lot of kids that play this game but I also meet several adults on wifi as well. all I have to say is don't give out any personal information when talking to people through wifi.

Haha, what a load of garbage. Casual games appeal just as much to adults as children. Do they even know about the friend code system? The article is full of misleading and incorrect information. "Mid-Missouri Internet Crimes Task Force" . . .

First off, the only way a perverted man or women could even reach your kids is by having their friend code, and why would a parent be stupid enough to let younger children connect online and get that info. from others?
Just because people are older doesn't mean they should keep their Wii under lock and key, people take things way too far.

...?
So the child knows the pedophile in the first place, and they're blaming a game they played?

I'm a 35 year old mom I play this game and I have Wii speak and talk to everyone I follow all the rules and never get personal. My daughter is 9 she has her own Wii and also plays AC I watch everything she does and know all her friends. She did have 1 problem and it was with a teenage boy not an adult.I'm sure there is always a chance that there are weird people out there and if your kid is not old enough to understand when the line has been crossed and tell someone about it then they shouldn't be left alone to play these games.

and why would they say things about a game and not the person. its not the game that they have a problem with its the people. so why should we be scolded as the people who play a game? it makes me so angry.

Have a look at the actual video. Apparantly, Tortimer is a pedophile. But when it comes right down, it's the kid's fault for giving their friend codes to strangers, so Anderson has no idea what he's talking about.

I am also a 35 year old mom who plays regularly. Many of my friends play and we are all close in age. The Nintendo commercials are geared toward adults, not children. If this detective was quoted accurately in stating that there is "no reason for an adult to have this game" he is clearly mistaken. The statement that any adult who possesses this game and similar titles, play for unsavory reasons is highly offensive.
If children are being contacted by pedophiles, then it's because the parents have allowed their children to connect through the Wii wi-fi connection to strangers these children have come in contact with through the internet. There is no way I'd ever let my child have contact with a stranger either by internet, or through the Wii. It is no different than letting your kid loose in a mall or any other public place with no adult supervision.
We need to remember, that the internet is more intimate than any public place. You are communicating with others, not in a mall but in people's homes and you never ever really know who you are talking to. I hope parents are more responsible with their children's entertainment but this game is safe and appropriate for anyone of any age. How parents control wi-fi use has nothing to do with the game itself.

That's an interesting thing about advertising. While games like Animal Crossing are generally made for kids, Nintendo of America will advertising them for adults, so that the game is aimed toward kids and the commercial aspect is aimed towards adults, making sales in both the kid and adult market. It's a lot like the Japanese Super Fanicom game Mother 2's slogan: "Kids, grownups, and even young women".

I'm 14 and I play the game, my brother who is 22 plays it ( he has his own wii and talks to me on wifi ^.^)My Aunt plays it, she talks to me on wifi, and my mother also plays it ( she wont tell me how old she is, her reply was "old enough to know better then to tell you that..." ) ANYWAY if i had a problem with a person simply press the "defriend" button, no problem there! anyway... My younger sister plays it (shes 9) and goes on wifi with my cousin and her friend, but when she goes on wifi either me or my mum have to be in the room with her. Its not the game - its the people!! I think its ridculous to say that people over a certain age cant play the game!! There is reason for adults to have the game - because they like animal crossing, or to comunicate with friends & family. Does that mean when im 18 i have to stop playing?! Thats ridiculous!! Sorry for any spelling mistakes! Edit: Mar 20, 09
