Haze Player Review {The first, read and comment}

quote Province
Two years later and the jaugernaut known as Haze has finally made it into my Playstation 3. Or has it? You see unlike the other cronies who defend it (I shamelessly admit I did it too) I'm goint to be blunt and I'm going to be as unbaised a real critic or my name isn't Jack!

I don't know what to tell you, the hype got to the point where even the legendary developers of the even more lengendary Timesplitter series shit themselves. (Yes I believe Timesplitters is a epic monster of a FPS and Haze, Halo and the rest of the class should learn from it)

Allow me to continue, I'll break it down part by part. Starting with the story. You must know it already. You play as a war newb with the gaming charisma equal to that of the Master Chief (Which in turn is equal to that of a peanut) Shane Carpenet who was once, according to Neoseeker's profile, was going to rip off my name and be called Jack Carpenter. Learn your lesson!

NOW! We experience Shane's drug abused world through his eyes and he shows sympathy for his captive and breaks away from his employers known as mantel. (Every code monkies dream!) So after kicking his previously steriod pumped friends into the next life. You learn journey through the rest of the game as a Rebel. Now here it comes, praise. Yes Free Radical, I appluad the fact you where able to turn things around quite early in the game by offering me a interesting combat system and this is where the game starts to break free from it's criticism (In a heroic Superman sort of way) before getting beat back down again like the animal that it is! You see, I can now plant mines, play dead, scavenge ammo and nectar from my prey, and I become a Farcry like hunter. However the bad guys still have steriods, my driving sucks, and the AI is so damn smart as to take advantage of it! (Ok so thats not a bad thing)

The whole two sides of the story thing is really a bit inaccurate, it explains before how you walk both sides of the story for a generally equal period of time. Which is in fact two missions for one side and the rest of the game for the other. (Biased are we?)

So, bored of going it alone I called in backup. Yes, I have a friend. Together (With two more 'friends' online with us) we crushed, blasted, stabbed and shot our way to the finish for a better than average finish in my opinion and we all felt reasonably pleased with the story as a whole. However I can't go on about that, else this won't be approved for fear of spoiling the game.

I will go on though and mention the point of key interest in most Haze players. The online. It's good (So shut up Halo fanboys!). It's very good. Limited in a way, but fun and enjoyable none the less. I say this though on a one sided view I'm afraid as I hardly play as a Mantel trooper. It's sort of a thing where when you join you find one suits you better than the other and you stick with it. Thankfully it's pretty evened out so not everyone is whining about who plays as who like a obnoxious playground game (I never got to be the good guy!). There are a selection of weapons for both sides, some with the same function only a different design such as shotguns, snipers, and machine guns. However each side has unique weapons, the unfortunate Rebels get a the close range set of a Knife & a Flamethrower while the Mantel Troopers get to play with Rocket Launchers (when they find them that is)

Online still has vehicles too, in a minor role. However it still is enjoyable to splatter foes onto the wall with a oversized doom buggy, but the real combat is just as fun and with all the added features of the Rebels, it nearly makes up for the lack of NECTAR which supercharges the Mantel players.

So in summary, the plot and gameplay are good offline and it has a decent storyline to roll with until the end but it doesn't fill in for the extreme lack of graphics that you'd expect for a Playstation 3 game. However, thankfully, the online is a brilliant addition and you don't miss clans or care about anything else besides playing the game. So basically, it's a good shooter, playable for ages thanks to online. So I recommend you give it a try, it is a let down but it is worth playing if just to laugh at Mantel Troopers overdose and go into spasm...*Drool*

Finalise: 7.8 out of 10

Ok with all the debates and stuff, I think I should post my reivew for opinion. Do you you thiknk I scored it good enough? Did i outline it's issues and highlights? Please remember it's a critics review (Basically) AND IT IS ONLY MY OPINION!!!

re: Haze Player Review {The first, read and comment}

Thank you for reestablishing my faith in the game! I was so hyped for it's release but after so many reviews gave it terrible scores, I was about to (reluctantly) skip it and just save my money for Unleashed but now that a fellow gamer has found it enjoyable, I think I'll get it.

Yes but know I'm a FPS fanatic and what I might find enjoyable (Destruction and ruthless mayehm FTW) you may not. Yes I recommend it still though from my opinion and I'm glad to be of help...in a indirect kinda way.

Well considering that all but one (Assassin's Creed) of my PS3 games are FPS, I don't think you being a FPS fanatic will change my opinion.

IGN - 4.5
EGM - D-
Gamespot - 6
Metacritic - 55 out of 100
Gametrailers - 6.2

You're entitled to your opinion, I just ask you don't Bash mine next time or at the very least at a quote that proves I put Halo down.

I put down Halo fanboys as a in-review joke, I write review with maybe two people at one time. One of them was a Halo fanboy (My cousing ot make things worse ) so I just added it in as majority of forum hate rises comes from Halo mouths.

I can post a link to my favourite Halo review if you like?

Fair justice all round.

Thats a great review and score. It would be what I would rate it, if not 8/10.

Its about time we got an actual review worth reading and accepting unlike the mass of crappy reviews by idiotic sites.

re: Haze Player Review {The first, read and comment}

He didn't slam Halo, but it would be fair to point out that a lot of criticism came from Halo fans. Also, coming as no surprise, Haze was compared to Halo, as will MANY fps games for a long time, which isn't always a fair grading scale.
I find Halo to be a very fun game, I admit, both storyline and Xbox Live.

But Haze isn't a bad game. The storyline is a bit lacking, but not entirely hopeless. The graphics go both ways. Scenery, vehicles, weapons, etc look pretty good, but the people (more specifically, the faces) are second rate quality, although the detail in the Mantel soldiers does look pretty nice. Voice acting is not the best I've ever heard, but certainly not the worst. (Check out Musashi for the PS2, and tell me honestly that that isn't the WORST voice acting in the world!) The controls are pretty solid, easy enough to learn and fluently use. Vehicles are vehicles, if you're good with driving on other games and suck as the gunner or if you are good with the gun and suck as the driver, this game is no different. I haven't played online yet since I don't have the means yet, but it does seem like most reviews do deem that to be where it really shines, so I do look forward to that.

I think I said pretty much what Province said, but not in so many words.

And please do not assume that my avatar makes me a Haze "fanboy", I just think that the Mantel troopers do look really cool.

I will agree with Sega, they do look cool. Although to pick at Haze further, Bright yellow would not be good colour to wear in a war...just saying. Although they do look pretty cool.

While you are right about the literal warfare side of it Province, I think that color schemes are the least important things on people's minds when it came to this game.
