Las Vegas City Leaders Fight Game Release |
|
City leaders are poised to fight a new video game featuring violence and terrorism in Las Vegas. The game is called "Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas." [Source] Can't say I disagree with them, personally. I don't think there are many towns out there that would be happy with their home cities being depicted as mob owned warzones. Another aticle below. UPDATE: Ubisoft has passed along the following statement in response:
Also, Las Vegas Review Journal business reporter Chris Jones contacted 1UP evening to inform us his original story is what sparked KLASTV's follow-up (which didn't introduce any new information, actually). Credit where credit is due. ORIGINAL STORY: The folks at Game Politics pointed out this morning that KLASTV in Las Vegas is reporting about a brewing development concerning Ubisoft's Rainbow Six: Vegas shooter for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. Apparently they're awful upset over the game's setting, and are currently looking for ways to legally attack the upcoming game. Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman says the game is "based on a false premise," something I believe Ubisoft themselves would argue against. Of course it's false! That's the whole point, really settings; the developers want players to experience tactical shooting with new variables, and the glitz and glamour of the Las Vegas strip provides a perfect showcase, not to mention a good use of next-generation power. You didn't see New York suing Konami just because Arsenal Gear rammed into New York in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, but these days, who knows? Additionally, The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority is apparently looking into whether the game violates Las Vegas trademarks, something we're imagine Ubisoft's legal department looked into before allowing Electronic Gaming Monthly to feature the game on their cover, but you never know. 1UP's contacted Ubisoft for an official response to the allegations, and we've been told to expect more information from them later today. Stay tuned for an update. [Source] ------------------- | |
