What is this game about and who is in it? I only just recently found out that there are a whole range of different games!

Twilight Princess follows the typical adventure outline; Hero defeats evil and saves world. To elaborate on that, here's a rough summary;

Link, a young man from the village of Ordon, is a Sheppard who is known for his skills as a horse rider. One day among his usual chores, Link is attacked and knocked out by a monster, (King Bulbin), who kidnaps the children of the village and leaves Link for dead. Upon awakening from his unconscious state, Link runs after the monster and discovers that the land that he once knew as Faron Woods has been covered in an unnatural darkness; The Twilight.

Link's purpose in this game is to awaken as a hero and save the land from the King of Twilight, Zant.

As for the characters;

You, (hero); Link
Antagonist: Zant
Damsel in Distress: Zelda
Partner: Midna (Mysterious Imp from the Twilight)
...And a variety of other characters.

That's just a rough outline without giving too much away. If you want a more detailed description of the game then it may be worth reading a review
