Boss on end of chapter 11 IMPOSSIBLE

So im fighting Barthandelus on chapter 11 and this guy is impossible to beat...

i have the guide for ff13 and im doing what they say... using comando-sentinel-ravenger then switching it up when he's staggered...

this part im ok with, its just when he inflicts doom on lightning... now in the guide it says he inflicts it when he's down to around 400k-500k hp left.. well in my battle he inflicted it 2 times now, both when he had around 1.2mil HP left.. now that is impossible to do!

any tips ?

He casts doom after 20 minutes, as a sign of 'Hurry up or die'.

I was stuck on this guy for around 2 hours and I forgot how I beat him

I'm pretty sure I used them to kill him, buff up then stagger him and assault him, you should take off about 600k every stagger.

Beat this boss on my first try, after reading a few things on here about people complaining about how hard he was i was kinda scared when i first got into the battle but as i started in the battle after about 3-4 mins in it was easy

Strategy
Battle Team - Light,Hope,Vanille - wierd i know but i thought id try something different

Paradigms
Com/Rav/Med - Com/Syn/Med - Com/Rav/Rav - Med/Syn/Med

Started off in Com/Syn/Med and let hope get all the buffs on, then for most of the fight i was Com/Rav/Med, Vanille easily keeps light and hope up and i was able to stagger in decent time. After 25-30% he starts to do his debuff attack which gets rather annoying but after he does it just switch back to Com/Syn/Med and just let hope put on prot and shell its all you really need and doesnt take as much time as it will for him to also put faith and bravery on everyone. After second stagger I summoned Odin and beat him down pretty hard. After that just rinse and reapeat he was easy with that strategy no one died and no one was even below 1k hp i dont think. Rating 2 start 12:03 i think not the best way to get a good rating but i got through the fight easy and got my 100k cp so i was happy. Enjoy the sweet cut-scene soon after that boss battle its amazing;)

Nothing is impossible, just sometimes you have to just keep on trying different strategies. But I had posted a link somewhere around here when I was having the same problem as you and here is what I did to beat him. Really he is soooo easy the way I did it anyways


Never mind I beat him just now, but to those also having difficulty even though I got 3 star rating >_> I'll tell you what I did. To get 5 Stars I believe you have to beat it 7-8 min Because I did it in 9 min 38sec

I used Light/Sazh/Vanille
my Paradigm was set up like this:

#1Tri-Disaster : RAV/RAV/RAV
#2Bully: COM/SYN/SAB
#3Perpetual Magic: MED/RAV/MED

ok so 1st stage what I did was I switched to #2 while Sazh hasted me and gave me some nice buff to up my magic and Vanille spammed Deprotect and Imperil <--- Which will be your best friend. Anyhow once everyone was hasted and the boss had imperil I switched to #1 and spammed the heck out of him until he was staggered & up to 999% then summoned ODIN used him until the enemy fell out of stagger then back again.

Now the boss should have by now hit is phase #2 and you should already have about 25% of the boss's hp gone. Now in phase 2 I'm sure of those who have gotten there he does a spell that takes your buffs all away. When this happens switch back to #2 get your buffs and then switch to #1 and keep going until you staggered him. When he does his other spell where it greatly diminishes your hp switch to #3 get up hp up ( now it doesn't have to be in the green just get it where your char are above 2k. Then switch back to #2 and just keep repeating.

Just remember Imperil was my key to defeating this guy which basically "Reduces target's elemental resistance and deal magic damage" So imagine 999% Stagger and RAV/RAV/RAV goes up fast.

Did you try Imperil then switch to RAV/RAV/RAV he should go down fast if you keep Imperil on it.

i did, but he uses the move where he charges for about a minute and you have to stagger him so the attack isn't as powerful(name escapes me, sorry). but he seems to target light more than anyone else which will kill her and leave everyone at 50-70% hp. Even if she has 100% health and is buffed with shell.

i tried your method 4 times iainteze, the first 2 times i could't get past his 4 element based peices of armor. the other two times i got past thee armor, but the attqck i talked about earlier would wipe me out the first time.

I FINALLY defeated him. I've been leveling up for days. For some strange reason he didn't cast doom(which was the only reason I kept losing before). I also switched my strategy and team:Lightning/Vanille/Snow...RAV/SAB/SEN. Then when he was hit with status disabilities I hit him with RAV/RAV/SEN. It helps to have about 5 foul liquids and 2 formations of RAV/MED/SEN and MED/RAV/SEN (Esuna variations)and of course MED/MED/SEN.

HOLY SHIT! Whomever recommended Imperil *bleep*ing rocks. Took me less than 10 minutes to defeat him with a Light Sazh Vanille Combo. Damn. That boss was pissing me off, too. Took me three tries, on the third try I listened to whomever recommend imperil, and it worked like a charm. Thank you so much.
