Had a pretty cool Smash-related encounter the other day. I went to some random Brawl tournament with a couple friends at some sort of hispanic cultural building or something, really not sure what it was honestly. It was just a $1 entry fee which was being donated to some foundation, and I think I probably got more than my money's with in food and drinks supplied alone lol.

But anyway, the cool part is, we weren't really expecting to see anyone good show up to this thing, as the advertising for it was pretty discreet. However, we get in there and coming up the stairs behind us is Hungrybox, but none of us really knew that at the time. For those who don't know, Hbox is easily in the top 5 for Melee players, and is the best Puff main if you don't count Mango, and he also plays a mean D3 in Brawl.

Anyway, at first he used some random tag that was already on the system, then he entered "HBox" for his second match, and at that point I quickly turned around to him and said "Dude, you're Hungrybox? That's awesome!" and he acted surprised saying "You know about me!?", and then I just started loling.

So he wins the tournament pretty handily. I ended up tied for 3rd I think. Afterward we invited him to play Melee just so we could see the skill gap. Couldn't play his Puff since the Wii-supplier didn't have a memory card, but it was still awesome.

The prize he won was a $10 gift card to Chipotle, which, funnily enough, is right in front of his house, and also right next to the tournament building. He basically just had to walk a few feet from his house, whip ass for 30 minutes, and he's awarded a free $10 to a restaurant he goes to regularly. I wasn't even aware he was living here until then, but apparently he moved just a couple months ago to go to school here.

So yeah, pretty cool encounter. That's the second famous Smash player I've randomly encountered now, the first being Ryo, the best Ike player for Brawl, who also lives in my town.
