Online mode? |

Has Nintendo said anything about implanting a online mode in the game? If not, I dont see much of an reason to get it, really =/ ------------------- ![]() Don't eat my rose, silly sheep.

no official statements have been lately. The last one that was made said they were not going to put in online. Frankly I am happy with that. The metroid franchise was never designed for multiplayer abilities and when it is added it is substandard at best. If you want a game for multiplayer just go get halo or gears of war or something.

That's a curious ideology.
If you want it go elsewhere. They had done online with Hunters. It proved popular. I'm quite sure the game would not be worse off with online, and in fact would be quite the excellent marketing strategy. But alas, it's not looking like it will happen. >.> ------------------- ![]()

Hunters is only a metroid game because it has the name. Frankly the metroid universe never lends itself well for multiplayer. Lets face it. is the multiplayer function of hunters really metroid game play? no its not. its a cheap halo knock off. Frankly a crappy one when compaired too. I am not denying that you can have multiplayer and even have it remotely fun. But firstly having it in there detracts the programmers attention from the singer player portion, and for that matter metroid was always about samus being thrown in against impossible odds. An isolationist atmosphere. And it isnt really about the action. Its more about exploration and getting upgrades.
I mean it would be no different than making Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess multiplayable just simply because people want to play with their friends. would you do that? Well perhaps from a business standpoint if it will get you more money. But does the game really lead to being able to play against multiple characters? It might be fun to hack away at your friends but it just doesnt fit. I guess when it comes down to it my points is just because you can do something doesnt mean you should. *let me reiterate. This is just my opinion. I stand by it rather strongly but it is just an opinion. I am sorry but you are rambling. First off the hunters was for the DS, a handheld console. Ofcourse it wont be as good as the stationary flagship for the Xbox. I see absolutely no reason why it would "break" the universe in any way. It would only increase lasting time and so on. Besides Gears of war and Halo aren't for Wii, now are they? =) ------------------- ![]() Don't eat my rose, silly sheep.

dont think so literal. I was just using those as examples. as in if you want multiplability go get a game designed with that in mind instead of changing a game that was never intended for that. Ultimately it doesnt matter. it will either happen or it wont. But it is sad to see metroid become less metroid-ish every new release

We've been through too many times.
Nintendo have said there will be none, despite hints they've already made (Someone used Metroid as and example to try to convey how WiFi would work on Wii, before release, etc). I, personnally, see both sides of the arguement, but I do tend to agree with MoRbIdE, Metroid Prime 1 and 2 were fantastic, and I wasn't a great fan of Hunters, maily because of the focus of WiFi multiplayer. Whatever you think, it's clear to most that it did affect the single player mode, and it was in a bad way. Don't get me wrong, in my opinion (and lots of other for that matter) Hunters is a great game. It does what it does well, but what it does isn't what I would want it to do, if you understand me :/. -------------------

I remember Retro saying that they wanted to use the WiiConnect24 feature in some fashion, but the details of that and any other online feature are not yet known.

Retro needs to get their heads out of their asses, and FAST.
Get the team that did the Singleplayer in Echoes to do the Singleplayer in this. Get the team that did the Multiplayer in Hunters to do a Multiplayer in this. Nintendo keeps making stupid mistakes. Whether they like it or not, multiplayer works GREAT for Metroid Prime, something that Hunters proved. You can have great singleplayer AND great Multiplayer, they just slacked off and used "ZOMG, JOO CAN'T HAEV BOTH" as an excuse that all of Nintendo's loyal followers believed. ------------------- You have to see this...

quote guticbRetro didn't make Hunters. NST did, just like all portable/2D Metroid Games. Retro just makes the Prime games(the real Prime games, Hunters was a spinoff of the series). The only solution is for Retro to work on their multiplayer(remember the Echoes multiplayer?). If NST works with them, profits will be split between the two developers and Retro sure as hell doesn't want that. I want MP3 to have a good online multiplayer, I really, really do, but if it will just suck and affect the single player, I don't. If they can pull off both perfectly instead of just one(which neither Retro or NST have done yet), then that would be great, but I'd rather one exceptional focus it excels at then multiple mediocre additions.

Hell, if they have to split profits to get both, and they don't want to split profits, it's more proof of them being cheap!

You are aware of the fact that Retro is a small, one-team Texas-based developer that actually lives only because of Metroid Prime, right? They have nothing else. The never released any games except Metroid Prime and Echoes. They cancelled every game in development for Prime and never developed anything except Metroid since. If they have to split the profit on the only game they have, how will they make money? I sure don't want Retro to close down, they took one of Nintendo's best franchises and made it much better. Everyone thought it was going to flop, but it got 2002 Game of the Year. It's all that's keeping Retro alive.
I can forgive no multiplayer, but I cannot forgive any less than a perfect single player. I still play and absolutely love Metroid Prime, even though it had no form of multiplayer whatsoever and the controls were nothing special. It was my favourite game of not just the GC, but the entire last generation, and considering how many PS2(my favourite last-gen console, just so you know) games I have and have beaten, that is saying a lot. This is my most hyped title for the Wii, even without any multiplayer. Even more so than the online SSBB. I really don't want Retro to *bleep* up the single player at all. I want it perfect(MP was almost, almost there).

Although Nintendo, Retro and NST all belong to Nintendo, they are all different people and all seperate companies. Nintendo publish the games, but NST earn their share of the cash like a second party would earn. The only benefit of being a first party is that Nintendo has control over you and development costs may be ramped up. The other first party companies, on the other hand, are seperate.
I don't think Nintendo would give a damn about Retro if they screwed MP over. It's all they have ever made(they have more cancelled games then they do released or in-development games). Retro was an independant company, but Nintendo just owns a large share of the stock, which is why they own the company. They can leave them at any time.

If Nintendo owns Retro, then Nintendo WILL give Retro all the extra funds they need in order to get an online mode in it.
