MGS4 gameplay time is 10-20 hours long! (update on first post) |
quoteI just updated the news here, so it gives a more general opinion of MGS4's runtime. I'll be playing this game extra slowly, so I can get over the 20 hour mark. XD This message was edited by Gothic Girl on Jun 03 2008. -------------------

That could be true but I remember reading that some game reviewers took about 29 hours to beat the game with only 1/3 of that being cut-scenes.
Well they might have rushed through the game and at this point, either way I don't really care, I just want the game. -------------------

That's normal, as a matter of fact. MGS games have never been very long. I've beaten MGS1 in less than 10 hours, MGS2 also isn't tat long, and I know people who have beaten MGS3 in around 10 hours. 10 to 13 hours gameplay isn't unusual. Though I am sure it's going to take longer than that for me my first time through.

No doubt the game might be 10-13 hours in length if you know what to do and have an idea of where everything is.
First playthrough will no doubt run people around 20 hours, and most likely more. MGS3 took me 21 or 22 hours to beat on my first game. -------------------

They are talking about the first run-through DMD.
I was hoping that MGS4's gameplay time would be a little longer than previous games ... Maybe at least be 15 hours on an "experienced" run-through, and even longer on a first run-through? 10 hours seems so short, especially for a game that is meant to have all our answers answered. My MGS runtimes are usually 15+ hours, though that usually involves a lot of aimless exploring and constant calling people on the codec just to hear what new stuff they might say (XD). Oh well. If I do alot of exploring, I'm sure it'll seem longer. Here's hoping you're right Dresken. 29 hours sounds great. -------------------

Where does it say the info is taken from a first playthrough?

It came from the OPM review, so I'm assuming they're talking about their first playthrough of the game.
I'm not sure what the "which has been confirmed" part means though - Maybe Konami confirmed it? -------------------

quote DC SniperEr ... no, not really. It doesn't spoil anything plot-wise. I don't know why anyone would hold out on visiting forums with the fear of finding how long they'll be playing a game for. -------------------

Bear in mind this is actual gameplay time, not how long you'll be experiencing the game for. If you skip all the cutscenes and Codec convos in the previous games, they have about the same amount of gameplay time as well. And if you really know what you're doing, you can beat them in about two hours each. But so what? The type of people who rush through their games as quick as possible are either journalists, who have to beat the game to review it, or nutters who buy games and plow through them on the first day just so they can go on the internet to brag. I didn't beat any of the previous games in 10 hours first time out, so I seriously doubt I'll beat this one as quickly.

Err spoilers?? What spoilers?
Anyho I agree with Jake! If you play through them pretty fast and cut all the scenes gameplay is pretty short! But it all depends on how you will play yourself! OPM is garbage. Seriously though, they must have had someone born and bred to play Metal Gear Solid 4 and had them rush through the game to beat it in 10 hours. They list it like it's a near impossible feat or a world record...
I'm sure I'll take my time through the game, even though I could probably rush through it, but that would just be pointless on your first run, I ain't going to skip a single cinematic or codec call. Then I'll probably play through it again for fun, fooling around, and unlockables. ------------------- "This is good... Isn't it?"
