Ok basicly i have never played a game in this series, but as of all the hype around it i thought i would look into it. So can anyone tell me anything i need to know about this game, or what this game actually is, i know nothing atall except the name of this game so many thanks to anyone who replys.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
If you're going to start playing the franchise, it's recommended you play from MGS1 onwards since it's a complicated storyline for some.

It is recommended that you at least play through MGS2 before playing MGS4 or you'll be at a complete loss with the storyline..

However, I would recommend playing the first 3 games starting from MGS1 up until MGS3 before playing MGS4, you can buy the essential collection which includes all 3 games for about $30..

Yep you are right so if i were new to the series i would buy or rent the others.

Besides, Kojima's providing flashbacks so you're not at a total loss. And I can check the previous games' cinematics on Youtube to catch up anyway.

Playing through the game and simply watching the cut-scenes are two completely different things. You won't get the same feeling when you just watch those as when you play through the game and go through everything that lead to these cut-scenes, on top of that Metal Gear Solid has more than just cut-scenes, actually most of the important dialogs regarding the storyline happen over the codec..

Yeah, don't go on you tube to watch the cut scenes, i tried that to recap on MGS but it did my head the crap video and sound quality, so i dug deep in my room and eventually found it.

i preordered the limited edition and the very next day i got a dvd in the mail. it did a decent job of recapping, but there's nothing like playing through the originals.

If thats the case, then they can't and shouldn't buy MGS4 until they get the previous ones first. Youtube does shit when it comes to "delivering" an actual Metal Gear experience.
