Yes, even though Kojima said that MGS4 would be his last entry into the series, it would appear he has had a change of heart.

Poor Kojima can't make up his mind. First he said that MGS4 would be his last Metal Gear Solid game, then he hinted that a MGS4 sequel was in the works, then assistant producer Ryan Payton said there wouldn't be a direct sequel but another Metal Gear game eventually would be made, then Kojima restated that he is thinking about making MGS5.

Sounds very interesting, I thought this would be the final chapter of MGS, but wondered if it was possible there would be a 5th installment.

I don't believe it... apart from teh fact that I can't go onto GameGrep, so I can only go by your description, I'm going to have to say that it's all a bit hearsay at this point and nothing concrete till Kojima tells us himself.

seriously, as much as i like raiden, what would be the point in a Metal Gear Solid game without Solid Snake.

The thing is it could be called anything as you said the originals were just Metal Gear, these are Metal Gear Solid... The sequel like they call it could be Metal Gear "Anything", it might not be Metal Gear Solid but it will still be based in the world.

First, we will need to see if MGS4 leaves a feasable ending to continue the francise (Metal gear solid that is). We could see another badass come into the picture in MGS4 who could kind of carry it on, but without the big characters it would probably be best to just make a whole new set of characters.

From a financial perspective, stopping at MGS4 is insanity.

As a mega-blockbuster cash-cow flagship franchise for Konami, MGS has at least another trilogy in store.

Solid Snake and Mr. Kojima step down and some new protagonist and a new project leader will take their place. MGS5 will happen, guaranteed. The stockholders, board of directors, and Konami's CEO are more likely to form a real Outer Heaven armed with nuclear warheads rather than not pursue a continuation of the brand-name series.

And Kojima doing ZOE3 would just be marvellous!

OMG, i dunno even thoug i would love this, it doesen't fell right a MGS game without Solid Snake...
he is the well i can't say because he sin't one by is afirmation, but he is teh "GUY" so he needs to be there, Raiden isn't Good enough Material to fill Snake's Spot....
or Snake is involverd like Kojima or it sin't MGS

Perfect Example:
Metal Gear Solid 3 Didn't feature Solid Snake unless your counting Snake Vs Monkey.

It has been believe when MGS2 & 3 we're released, that those we're going to be the end of the MGS era and it turned out to be false. So I say anything can happen and anything can be desided, nothing is ethced in stone.

I would hate to see another MGS series. If Kojima could somehow pull a MGS5 out of that humongous brain of his, I'd be more willing to play that. But to have a MGS game without Big Boss, Solid/Liquid Snake, Ocelot, and the other main characters would just be stupid. Not having Kojima involved would be a huge mistake too. I think we'd lose that "Metal Gear feel" that we have with the games.

I love the characters in the MGS universe... they're so cool that anything that would be made in place of them would never live up to these originals. I wouldn't like it unless the story is canon to the series we play now.
