What would you do to improve the game?
|
If they released a sequel to this game, or something similar, like a European theater one, what would you do to improve it?
Personally, I would make the ships somewhat more realistic. (Look at a picture of Arizona, and then at the Arizona in the game to see what I'm talking about.) Also, I would make the ships' destruction more realistic. For example, when the ships roll over, their turrets fall off. Or maybe have the ships break apart as they sank. OHH! Or if you hit the ships ammo magazine, and it's a kill shot, the whole thing goes up in a big fire ball!
Any way, what are your suggestions?

Do the ships actually break intp pieces when they're destroyed? From all the gameplay movies I've seen, they just sink as a whole. It'd be nice if the big ships sometimes snapped in half due to the weight movement, and smaller ships exploded into a few pieces. That would be #1 on my list of graphical improvements, unless they've already done it.
2 days till Battlestations is out for me, hopefully.

Indeed, ships do break up as they sink. Especially if they are heavily damaged. The one that comes to mind right now is the "Bismark", a German warship of the time.

I know. That's the point of this thread. That's what I would like to see in a future game like this.

Now that I have the game I can actually post something properly.
There's two things that I think need to be sorted out.
I really think the campaign needs improving. I know that Eidos have said the campaign is meant to be a sort of training ground for the online play, but it was pretty damn boring and un-campaign like. Most of the missions saw you controlling small and crappy vehicles like the PT boat and a single Destroyer, only towards the end do you actually get to use full fleets. I also have an issue with the missions themselves, which I didn't find very exciting. Things like destroying cargo ships and destroying one single battleship isn't what this games about. The mission I had the most fun with was the strike on Talugi (sp?) mission, because it's the only mission where you can really attack an enemy base properly with a fleet. We should have had more missions involving full scale battles, not just small portions.
Another thing the game definatly needs is a skirmish mode. I can't think of an RTS game that hasn't got a simple skirmish/deathmatch style mode that you can just pick up and play whenever you want. The mode would simple pit the US against the Japanese, with an even amount of units (say, 1 airfield, 1 shipyard and 2 carriers) each. You can then just battle it out untill one team prevails. It's simple and easy to make, so I have no idea why Eidos chose to overlook it. It gives players the opportunity to have something that lasts a long time and doesn't involve online play. Face it, the challange missions can get repetitive. A skirmish mode is different each time.
So yeah, after playing through the campaign one and a half times, aswell as doing some challenge missions, I've only found two issues. If those can be fixed, this game would be near flawless.

you could have a instant ship-crippling explosion if it hits the powder magazine, such as the HMS Hood had happen to her. I don't think that the turrets would fall off though because they are on there tight
