	Log in to remove this sponsored message For some time I've been learning about Microsoft's terrible reliability in regards to the 360. The Red Ring of Death, discs being scratched, video failure, online errors, overheating, and all sorts of other examples of the 360's flaws. Now usually I just sort of shrug and make a mental note note to buy a 360 for a long, long time. Lately though I've been hearing some other things. Granted these 'facts' are coming from people that seem to be heavy supporters of the 360... These are some of the things I'm hearing about the Wii... - It overheats in standby - The sensor bar is fragile - The remotes devour batteries - The remotes are unreliable - The system freezes a lot - Something about the power supply failing (I have no idea what they're talking about here.) - The online play is choppy - The internet is equally choppy. - One of my best friends has been trying to convince me that the more VC games you have, the slower your Wii gets. - Various complaints about the motion sensing. - And... the most outlandish of all... The motion sensing can given you cancer if you stand in the way. - Oh, and I've been hearing that your Wii is supposed to be able to read from SD cards like memory cards, but the Wii needs to be updated at some point to do that. I kid you not. This is a list of the some of the complaints I'm hearing. Like I said, a lot of this comes from people who love Microsoft. I'm just wondering... Is this all anti-Wii propaganda or have any of you run into these problems? I keep looking at my Wii and worrying that its going to break or some bug is going to ruin it. How true are these claims against the Wii? What about the 360 and PS3? Are they also going through such difficulties? I know the 360 has a lot of issues, but how many are true? What do I have to worry about with the three consoles? I personally don't want to pick up a new console that has a lot of hardware flaws. 	I'll try and cover your points one by one: It overheats in standby When using the standby connection, Wii's due tend to become hot, and there have been some cases of this excess heat damaging the GPU of the Wii, causing it to display improperly. This is a fairly rare occurrence, though, and is within the normal amount of defective consoles of any generation or brand. Also, there is evidence to suggest that after the latest Wii firmware update, the Wii runs much cooler while in standby. - The sensor bar is fragile I guess it is made of plastic, and isn't indestructible, but its not like you should be messing with the sensor bar unless you are transporting your Wii. Just some ordinary care will keep it in prime condition. I would be more worried about interference from other IR sources, such as the sun or a candle than breaking the thing. - The remotes devour batteries Standard double A's will last about twenty hours before needing to be replaced. If you are concerned about replacing batteries, just use rechargeables, or buy one of the numerous charging stands on the market. - The remotes are unreliable I have had my Wiimotes disconnect once, causing me to unplug my Wii for a little bit, then everything was fine. I have seen several cases of this around this forum, but nothing major or permanent. - The system freezes a lot No more than any other system or computer. Mine has frozen once or twice, but this is far less than my other systems, and especially a PC. - Something about the power supply failing (I have no idea what they're talking about here.) Never heard anything like that either. - The online play is choppy Online play on Wii is in its infancy. Brand new servers are going up, and problems have to be worked out. My experience on Striker's Wifi has been great for the most part, with only one or two matches with disconnects or major lag. - The internet is equally choppy. The browser is a tad slow, but not what I would consider choppy. Certainly not terrible. - One of my best friends has been trying to convince me that the more VC games you have, the slower your Wii gets. This is actually true. I noticed a significant slowdown after I downloaded Starfox 64 on my Wii, although the latest Wii firmware update seems to have corrected the problem. Also understand that this affects the speed at which the main channel interface loads up, not the games or channels themselves. - Various complaints about the motion sensing. The degree of accuracy in motion sensing is up to the programmer. Bad games have bad motion sensing, good games have good. It really depends on which game you are playing. - And... the most outlandish of all... The motion sensing can given you cancer if you stand in the way. The Wiimote works off a bluetooth radio, which is in most portable devices now anyway. Your body is pelted with more radio and IR waves than the Wii can generate every second of everyday, so it isn't something you really need to worry about. - Oh, and I've been hearing that your Wii is supposed to be able to read from SD cards like memory cards, but the Wii needs to be updated at some point to do that. You can save game data on an SD card right now, but the Wii will not load directly from them. Right now, SD cards are used as data backup and transportation, not storage. I'm proud to say that the Wii has never frozen on me at all. That's right, never. I think you're getting mixed up with 360 problems. quote - The online play is choppy False. Mario Strikers Charged has absolutely no lag at all if you play someone with a 4-star connection. Nintendo only makes top quality products. Both my NES and SNES still work perfectly to this day. I wasn't sure how much ground these claims held, but I can say that my Wii has only had around two of the mentioned issues. Its also refreshing to see an objective person take on the subject. I personally love the Wii and have yet to find a serious fault with it. Also, for the record, I've experienced only two of the conditions above. My wiimotes do have to be reconnected every now and then and once my Wii apparently overheated. Its funny though. I just got off the phone not too long ago and one of my former classmates made this statement- exact words- "The Wii is so glitchy! I don't see why you got one. My 360 has NEVER given me a problem, but my Wii is constantly screwing up." Now this comes from a person who only plays Halo and Kung Fu Chaos- and the only Wii games she owns are Ant Bully, Surf's Up, some poker game, and RE4. She's constantly saying the 360 and the Wii have the same problems and that her 360 is 'perfect'. 	I'm sure one could assemble a mighty list of flaws if they chose to venture through extreme cases and stories with possible less-than-optimal conditions. Yes, the side is warm in standby mode, but does that mean that it overheats? I haven't seen anything to suggest such. I think you have to assume that the mechanics work correctly in the version that you're testing. Do you want to bring up overheating and power consumption when the competition includes the XBox 360? In terms of game success, the Wii chose a unique time to catch up to the 360. In the next few months Halo 3 and SSBB, two of the most, if not THE most, anticipated games for their respective consoles are coming out to battle for the Christmas season money. Check to see which console is ahead in January or Febuary, or if you're really picky, wait until MGS4 and the FF13 series come out. 	I think considering the reports so far this gen the PS3 and Wii owners can relax. So far the reported problems have been minor to nil. Short of course user created problems and overall lack of games. I think the 360 though should have all of the major problems worked out by the end of the year early next year. At least I certainly hope they do since that is around when I plan to get mine. And Sonic the PS3 does have some good looking titles coming this fall. Just none of the big name franchises that will propel it ahead. Of course depending on if you go by VGChartz or Nexgen Wars the Wii is already ahead of the 360. And the PS3 is still just plugging right along, only really behind because of the 360s year lead. Otherwise the 360 and PS3 would be neck and neck. 	I agree with Twi 100%. So far barely any problems have been found out on the Wii. I'm sure there might be some if the FAR future but for now it's practically perfect. -------------------

Congrats on being the first, honorable poster. -Gives no answer- On a side note, one of these friends returned their wii a few days later. Why? They didn`t read the instructions, thought the sensor bar was for the internet (and did nothing with it), and pointed at the blue disc drive with the remote- thinking it was the sensor. He deemed the Wii broken and bought a bunch of PS2 and DS games with the refund. I found out about this a month after he learned of his mistakes. This shows how... thorough these sources are.
