Makeshift Sensor Bar

I was wondering- I saw a Youtube where someone improvised a sensor bar using (from what I could see) candles. Could someone tell me what I'd need to make a makeshift sensor bar? I be curious.

Any infrared emittor. That includes, yes, candles . You can buy some at stores and such, but keep in mind that candles aren't quite as accurate as a real sensor bar, since it isn't as smooth a surface for the beams emitted by the Wiimote, but there are third party wireless sensor bars that work fine. Even unofficial IR emittors work fine. In fact, if placed properly, TV remotes work fine as well.

The only reason the sensor bar is connected to the Wii is for power, instead of eating up batteries. Any IR source should work, provided that it is the proper size.

It probably has something to do with the fact that the wiimote is designed to use two light sources to judge its distance and position. Imagine having two sensor bars right next to each other: The remote wouldn't know which lights it is meant to be using to calibrate itself. Its basically similar to how having too much sunlight in a room can make the wiimote jittery, as too much light source simply confuses it.

.... That is REALLY weird...

It uses the infrared lights as a point of reference though, just like how a PC mouse uses individual grains on a table, desk, or mousepad as a point of reference (Which is why mice don't work on glass, no points of reference).

That's why gaming mousepads are designed to be EXTREMELY smooth, yet have MUCH more individual grains than wood.

I should try that, right after using the front (or maybe side) of 2 wii remotes as sensor bars for anothet wii remote. Oh, and the reflection of a sensor bar (or even reflection of mirror reflecting sensor bar) works just a good. I't fun to use, too.
