Wii Grabs Driver: Parallel Lines

January 18, 2007 - According to the Entertainment Software Rating Board, developer Ubisoft is set to bring its open-world car game, Driver: Parallel Lines, to Wii. The game recently popped up on the ESRB's official website, an unofficial, but reliable confirmation that it's coming.

Driver: Parallel Lines, is sure to be an enhanced port of the already-released PlayStation 2 and Xbox games of the same name, which received "decent" 7.2 ratings by our IGN sister sites. In the title, gamers speed through city streets and go it on foot to accomplish a series of missions. The game's quasi-sandbox presentation is much more reminiscent of the Grand Theft Auto franchise than it has been in previous Driver outings. Obviously, the Wii build of the game will undoubtedly feature new, remote-specific controls.

We contacted Ubisoft for comment, but a representative for the company had none. We expect to learn much more about the Wii version of the title in the coming weeks, though, so stay tuned.

I'm not exactly sure why Wii developers would want to have this game in their repertoire, but I'm sure that an outdated PS2 game can be updated to run on the Wii engine. I admit, I'm impressed that they are going for it, this gives Wii another game which I really didn't expect to pop up on the console.

That's pretty cool. I loved the 2nd Driver game. I got hook on it for a long time same with the first one. Never played the 3rd much but hopefully this one will be good.

Seeing the controls will be interesting. I hope the game is good.

Gah. I doubt it will be enhanced. In fact, I doubt it will even look as good. Ubisoft ported Far Cry and it was much uglier than the XBox version, so I doubt this will be any different. Yet another unoriginal port from Ubisoft . When will they actually give us an exclusive? One that they worked on and spent time on? Something with fewer flaws then Red Steel. It was the only exclusive and it was extremely rushed and felt unpolished and unfinished. Everything else, the whole slew of the 13 titles they announced to come out by March(I don't know which weren't confirmed yet), weren't exclusive and only one was a new game(Rayman). Everything else was horrible, although I admit I enjoyed Rayman and Red Steel was actually mediocre(by their standards, that's high), but every other game was a pathetic port.

I refuse to buy any Ubisoft games for the Wii until we get something worked on. They earned money from the Wii sales, but I don't see that going up for long. Fans are getting really pissed off at them.
