This is some good news, and it is nice to see someone other than IGN reporting on it. Video games are becoming more and more main stream with every console.

But is this a good thing? If video games become even more popular, will titles like Madden and Brain Age replace the hardcore games like Mario and Zelda?

Talking about launches... I can see a big problem with Sony's launch. They are expected to drop the price shortly after launch right? That means that the average gamer buying a PS3 is probably not going to buy it at launch when he can save $100 bucks by waiting a month or two. What this means is that Sony's launch could be very small with people waiting for a price drop.

I think it's great about the early manufacturing. It'll give Nintendo a head start on Sony, and also prevent huge shortages which they are destined to have in Japan (and perhaps NA).

Nintendo is a favorite of Japan so I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo beat Sony in the polls for the first few months. At least until the PS3 had a price drop.

The PS2 sold extremly well in Japan when it first launched because of the DVD player that was added. Many Japanesse never owned a DVD player, and this really started that craze way back then. They're really into that home entertainment stuff, so the PS3 has a good likelyhood of selling well there based on that alone. But seriously. $600? That's like eighty-billion yen. If a console costs more yen than the population of your country, that's a problem.

Nah, I doubt it. The step from VC to DVD was a huge jump. Video Cassette sucks in comparison. Slow reaction, no real control other than fast forward and rewind, and isn't very useful when goin gto a certain part of the video. DVD, on the other hand, reacts faster to buttons, you have full control over it, including menus, selectable "Fast Forward" and "Rewind" speeds(my DVD player ranges from x0.5 to x32), choosing scenes, seeing deleted scenes, watching random scenes(Clue, for example, had that on the DVD edition), watching extra skits and behind-the-scenes stuff, and holds much, much more, most of the time there is a lot of space left in the DVD.

Blu-ray, on the other hand, is like a larger HD-DVD(25 GB per layer instead of 15) and a higher data density. It has a few other minor improvements, but I don't remember all of them. The problem is that Blu-ray costs more to produce in comparison to HD-DVD, and 30 GB is usually enough to hold most movies and games.

The good part about the PS3 is that the cheaper PS3 is half the price of a Blu-ray player($500 to $1000, respectively), so you are actually saving a hell load of money if you are looking for one. On the other hand, those who are generally uninterested in it have to pay more. Myself, I'm sticking with DVD until we get an HD-TV(probably not soon)...

Just wait until the PS4 comes out. Every Playstation fan will be giving an arm and a leg and $1,000 for one of those.
