Did they have a reason for such a strange name?

It's all about being a globelly recognised name and being pronouncable word for all people while encopasing how we're all going to play together online and in parties with another "focus on multiplayer" thing and other stuff.

It's keeps getting compared with stuff, though. That's what does my head in. "It's like Google." It's nothing like Google; it's not as catchy and it sounds too much like "We" and "Wee". Google sounds like nothing else, making it unique.

Wii is unique, it's awesome. I think it's the best named-system that is either coming out, out, or outdated.

Nah, at the time, Dreamcast was the best system name. I mean come on, it was a dream. Or even Genesis, it just is such a cool name. But Wii is up there on my list.

Dreamcast just sounds weird. It makes no sense whatsoever, but it's two real words strung together. Whereas Wii makes no sense whatsoever, but it's not a word at the same time. It's Nintendo saying "We're unique!"

Revolution is the best name. Period. End of discussion. Case closed. And besides Google was unique. Wii is not. Too many sick jokes come out of it and it is too close to the word we.

Before I heard "wii". I hadn't heard anyone use it to refer to their 'member' or the act of urination in quite a many years, and even then it was obscure. I'd consider anyone today idley giggling at playing the Wii in that sense a lowbrow individual who's just too bored for their own good, and would more readily be stimulated by a lesser system.

A statement that I will make now, I won't be so lenient with every single thread turning into "The name sucks" after about a month. People are still adjusting, but afterwards I think we'll all be pretty sick of hearing about it. For all those who don't know E3 will spread it like fire, and after you've had either your groan in denial or a quick chuckle I do expect a little civility.

Two things good came out of them giving us the name Wii.

1. We finally have a forum.

2. We no longer have to wonder.

You forgot to change the word WE to Wii.

I've been waiting for this forum the first time I saw the Wii.

It must have been. For me, I could never admit that because I grew up on IGN. I remember when I was like 9 or 10 every day I would go on IGN64. When it was just that.

Heh, I never remember using the internet when I was that young. Only on the school computers though. This forum might get a bit packed over the six months.
