Can't play Gamecube games on my Wii.

I have a limited edition red Nintendo Wii and every time my brother tries playing Super Smash Bros Melee on it, the console doesn't read the disc. He has even tried using other copies of the same game and even they don't work. Are some Wii consoles not backwards compatible with Gamecube games?

Yeah. I can plug the controller in. I have a memory card that I can use too. I don't know what's wrong with my Wii. And I was planning to get the Metroid Prime games too. Oh well.

Are you using the new Wii model? If so they can't play gamecube games.

Dark Arcanine The Wii I have is the black Wii that first came out in like 2010, I got it in May 2010.

Color doesn't matter, Wii's that have GC ports have backwards compatibility, the new model Wii's don't have either.

Its probably just a dirty lens, when mine gets dusty it doesn't like playing Cube games. I bought a lens cleaner and it took care of the problem. You can get them at most game stores like Gamestop or Best Buy, or order them through Nintendo's website.

GameCube games have always tricky for me to play, even those that have no physical damage. Best Buy sells a good lens cleaner like mentioned above that all my friends have recommended. You may want to try it out.
