Is the Wii bound to scratch discs over time?

Not really. As the console "dies out" (it should last forever provided the lens holds up), the way it handles discs should remain the same. Now, I don't know the details of what's inside a Wii, so don't quote me on this, but you have nothing to worry about.

I've have my Wii almost since its release, and the only discs I have trouble with are Double Layered ones (eg, Super Smash Bros.), but that's probably the only game of many. I don't think you have any problems.

If you're that concerned, you should definitely clean your Wii regularly. I know Best Buy even sells Wii Disc cleaners. They're so cool looking that I almost bought one just for the hell'uve it.

Go have them buffed out or cleaned

During early production prototypes this was an issue. Over time yes, the wii, will tend to scratch discs. This error was corrected before the console was introduced.
