Ghost Trick is really sweet, it's just hard for me to put down Mass Effect long enough for me to get in some solid playtime
But I have the first four or so chapters done and am loving it. It's very unique, and you can tell by the style and design of the game that its made by the PW guy.
3DS launch window titles. For me, it;s Pilotwings for sure. Rest is up in the air. Also $250 is a bit mcuh, I think $220 would be more reasonable, $200 preferrably. but whatever, I'm buying it either way so I can get Paper Mario at launch 100% sure.
I dont think so, but it could go either way. That possibility was never explained in the game.
this just confuses me. I mean, in the ending, it seemed like Lynne knew something, but she couldn't have (she's actually probably the only main character besides Cabanella who doesnt have the possibiltiy of knowing)
Ghost Trick was a great game, and I liked ths tory, I just wish the ending was explained better. This isn't really an "Inception" or Braid ending discussion, this is more like a "huh, what just happened" discussion.
Good set of games. Since you own a PS3 now, you pretty much have to buy Uncharted. They're fantastic games, particularly 2, they're just not as amazing as people say they are. Also, I personalyl love Killzone 2, and 3 comes out later this month. If you are into single-player or MP in an FPS, I would get them. And KZ2 right now is only like $20, so I would buy it for it's great SP.
Picked up MvC3 today. Oh my God, is it fun. Strange, because I hate most fightign games, but it has this new Simple control option that makes it so easy to pull off specials, it makes it fun for anyone to play. Though it seems the female characters are so much better than the guy ones from who I've played so far. So far, Morrigan, Trish, Ammy, and Crimson Viper are my favorites

It's true that more FPSs are starting to seem pretty run-of-the-mill nowadays, but after seeing Bulletstorm, my faith is being enewed.
I wouldn't in all honestly. Bulletstorm seems to be fun, but will likely get old quikc, I just cant see the skill shot system being replayable for non high-score junkies. And I would disagree with that statement: though while FPSs nowadays for the most part are not original, many of them are extremelly high quality if you like the genre.
I'm not sure if this was in TvC or not, but this new "simple" system (that's it's name), removes all difficulty to pull off specials and makes it like Smash Bros. What I mean is to pull off a hadouken, you don't need to do Quarter circle+K or to do some move don't need to do Down-Down-Right+H, you just press one button or hold the stick in a direction and button (hold down+Y for Shurouken, just press Y for Hadouken).
I'm frustrated there is no Wii version of MvsC3. I get why, third party games don't sell well on Wii, but man is it frustrating. Also wish they would have ported MvsC3 to 3DS instead of SSF4, but that's another rant.
I think it's because SSFIV is more of a safe bet. MvC3 isn't doing as well as it critically should (Metascore), and so the sales won't be as high as they could be as for SFIV, which had amazing reviews. It's sad, but true that for a lot of games they need to get great reviews for high sales (and idiots who think anything lower than a 9 is bad).
Now this lets me go off on a little rant, but I am very dissapointed by the "professional" reviewers on MvC3. They giving it lower scores than a lot of other games because of things like a lack of modes, or that it isn't different or something stupid. The fact is that MvC3 is just plain fun to play, some of the most plain fun I've had in a competitive game since Monday Night Combat last summer (by the way, best online game since CoD4. So funny, amazing, etc. Also on PC as well as 360). And to me, fun factor trumps all other factors. It's the KAR effect.
Actually, I'm not all the concerned anymore. My favorite part of fighting games is the variety of characters, and Capcom reducing the roles by twenty from MvC2 strikes me as a poor choice and one that makes me a whole lot less likely to make the investment to play.
I actually like that decision. They trimmed down the cast by 20, but it's a better cast. All the characters feel different, more varied, and balanced (few exceptions like Sentinal. cheap bastard). Plus, they're gonna add in some through DLC, like 4-6, then figure an Ultimate Edition ala SSFIV or something next year which'll add even more. So yeah, they vut down on characters to get the game out sooner and so they could make more money off it later. But I'm not complaining. Game still kicks ass.
^I guess you make a point. But I still think it's nicer to spend time making "clone" characters on other things. My main beef with the game is a lack of modes. There's no simple verse a.i mode, you have to play thru the story if you're playing alone.
EDIT: Off to pick up Killzone and Bulletstorm. Hyped especially for the KZ campaign. Loved KZ2s
Pure, overblown, violent fun is exactly what I look for in a genre such as this, so BS is definitely on my list. It seriously breaks the barrier when set among today's swarm of stereotypical FPSs(which I still respect in their own right).
BS was actually really fun. I beat last week. The storyline wasn't actually half-bad (not gonna win any awards, but it kept me going). The game was really fun, and really didn't get all too repetitive.
It's EXTREMELLY generic in terms of gameplay, and wont be special for non-US citizens really, but to me this thing is really atmospheric. It's just flat out brutal. Gonna hide some examples in spoilers:
Spoiler:Homefront
1) You see mass graves with hundres of civillian bodies in them 2) You hide in one of those mass graves by lying under dead bodies 3) Labor camps, children begging for food 4) Parents being shot right in front of their children 5) Several attacks of small civillian towns, with one massive attack where the KPA is sending Apache choppers and burning down a massive city, and you hear the screams in the distance
To me, value isn't a problem if the game is good. I'd rather have a 6 hour masterpiece than 60 hour good game. I have no problem shelling out the cash for games like Metro 2033 because they are very good, even if my value isn't the best.
I don't know about you, but if a fantastic game only lasts 6 hours, then buying it and playing it is just setting myself up for disappointment. Well, unless it's really cheap
Not to me. As long as the story feels complete. Like Metro 2033 was short but complete, Homefront was short but rushed.
I don't know. I don't like buying short games no matter how good they are. I prefer to rent them or buy used, because I'm not really the kind of person that likes to replay games for achievements. I hope Homefront gets a sequel that has bit better online and a bit more length. It seems like such an awesome game, but not worth the $60.
HF online is amazing imo. SP was way too short. Cheap bastards at THQ took the alst 6 (yes 6) chapters of the game and are putting them out as DLC.
The thing about HF is the mutliplayer doesn't seem like it's anything different. The SP is unique, but the Mp, not so much.
It's a large-scale warefare game like BF, and most FPSs nowadays are infantry based. Combined with the fast pace of HF, it feels fairly differently. It's not breaking the mold like, say, Brink is, but it is good nonetheless.
Also, totally unrelated to gaming, but anyone here seeing Sucker Punch (movie)? It looks so badass, gonna try and go with my buds tommorrow, or next weekend.
Turns out I was my holding my 3DS wrong, I can use 3DS now. Only for like 30 minutes and I still prefer to play on 2D anway, but its nice to know when something like Kid icarus comes along.
Also: Ridge Racer is amazing. Must-buy 3DS title, and only $20. So much fun.
Do you own the hardware yet, because I'm assuming the new technology is meant to prevent any possible eye strain, rising above "common" 3D
Yeah, I posted earlier that I figured out it was the way I was holding my system that messed me up. 3D still hurts my eyes, but no more than a normal 3D movie.
EDIT: I am loving my 3DS. It has nice build quality, the 3D is a cool addition, and my games are nice (RR and PW)
Dragon ZERO, when I lift my top screen, it doesn't lock into place, it has just a little bit of wiggle room so it will flop back and forth if I tilt the system. Nothing game breaking, but a slight annoyance.
Mine doesn't do that. Wierd.

And you are extending the stylus, right? I found it to be much more comfortable than my DS lite stylus.
Edit: Okay, so for all of the Okami Defense force, Shinrau, the wolf that defeated Orochi the first time 100 years ago is really Amitarasu, right? They are the same character I mean, or did I totally misunderstand that game?
I'm not 100% sure, but I do not believe that's exactly the case. I believe it's more of a reincarnation type deal rather than the same wolf, because you fight with him against those owl things. Not 100% sure though, haven't played it in a while.
Just ship it now, before Zelda, Icarus, and other AAA games come out and you wont want to tear yourself away. Better now than right before you beat OoT.
Sucker Punch. Very underrated story-wise. My guess is most people cannot understand it. I can see how, I was literally the only person in the theater to understand the movie without explanation (my 3 friends were lost, and a group of 14 jocks got up and left because "it sucked"). I guess I'm good at that kind of thing. I was the only person in my English class to be able to tell within the first 5 chapters that Going After Cacciato was all in Berlin's head.
Thing is, whith movies like Sucker Punch, no one goes to see a plot. They go for Balls-To-The-Wall action. Which it didn't do too well.
Thing is that SP has both. Whenever you hear a Sucker Punch opinion or review, it's always "it had really nice crazy action scenes, but the story was so incoherent and terrible overall." SP has very good action scenes and a solid story. It's one of those psychological things where you see through the mind of a crazy person, but don't realize they're really crazy unless you're like me.
idk, I'm the type of guy who understood the whole "Braid=Atomic Bomb" stuff so whatever.
Sucker Punch is an above-average psychological movie that can be tough to understand if you're not observant and quick on your feet, with very good yet short lived action scenes. You decide.
Anyway, to bring the topic back to gaming, Portal 2 comes out in two weeks. HUZZAH
PC controls are the ultimate control method. It just takes time to adjust, but it is the most versitile and precise. Especially if you havve a gaming mouse and solid keyboard.
As for Portal, I think it is a masterpiece. The gameplay was celever and unique, but the story was the real winner. GLaDOS beats everything.
I feel more comfortable playing FPS controls on a 360 controller then I do on a PC.
Me too, but that's just because I was raised on a controller. PC is MUCH better for FPs and RTS though.

And Glados is alright, but way overrated. I know video games are in the special school when it comes to story and character development, but still. the amount of praise is way overdone.
I dunno, I think she deserves it. She was funny and sinister at the same time. I thought the was really good. Maybe not the level of praise she recieved, but still very high up. Kind of like what I think of Uncharted 2. It 's amazing, just nto as good as everyone says.
EDIT: I almost have enough coins for the Club Nintendo Game & Watch gameboy thing. With 850 coins expiring soon, I guess it's time to register my 3DS and get that sucker
Portal 2 is between 8-10 hours long in the SP, and another 8-10 in coop. It's probably not "worth" the $60, but as you know I'm the quality>quantity guy, I'd have no problem shelling out $60 for the first Portal. It is worth it if you buy it on the PC though. PC is only $50, plus you get the usual Valve support (as in tons of free stuff) as well as infinite amounts of user-generated content, as well as the ability to play coop with both PC and PS3 users.
And I just started Okamiden yesterday, and honestly I'm blown away at how much they are able to fit into one tiny DS cart.
May try to finish the first Portal over the weekend. I downloaded it for free back when Steam did that event, played it up to the last level and stopped. Always planned to go back, but when I realized that was the last level, I kinda stopped caring entirely.
The last level is like half the game and where all the story is
It actually is because of the style of story Portal 1 goes for. It has this mystery feel to it, you have no idea what's going on really, you just think it's a normal puzzle game, then BLAM! final level starts and **** gets real. It immerses you into the environment and your character. You feel like a lab rat. Portal 2, because the mystery of "WTF am I doing here" is gone, has "normal" pacing.
For Clun Nintendo, should I get Game & Watch Collection 2 or Game & Watch: Ball. I need to get either because I can't hold onto my coins any longer, they expire soon
Still, Okami is only $20 and is a whole new experience on Wii really. We wont bomb your house or anything if you dont get it, but it still is worth getting.
Oh my God, I have so many games to play over the summer it's not even funny
Fallout 3 (replay and 100%) Fallout New Vegas (first playthru) Mass Effect (first playthru) Mass Effect 2 (replay using imported file from first game) Dragon Age Origins (first playthru) Red Dead Redemption (100%) Half Life 2 and all its expansions (first playthru) Witcher 2 (first playthru) LA Noire (finish current playthru) Okamiden (finish current playthru)
So the plan is DVR the whole day on G4, go home, watch press conferences, study, watch floor previews. Sounds good to me, finals are still a week and half away, I've got time to procrastinate a little
I personally like gritty FPS and western RPGs and still thought their conferences were trash. Last year was garbage. They tease us with opening with demons of Reach, Gears 3, and Black Ops in the first thirty minutes. Then its an hour and a half of freaking Kinectimals
HERE SKITTLES!
EDIT: I have 12 hours of footage recording tommorrow, lol. I had to clear out my entire DVR (basically the whole season of unwatched Apprentice) to tape all this.
It's not so much that they have them, but that those are the only games they seem to focus on. Do you really need to spend a huge amount of time on Gears, Halo, and COD? Pick the best to demo, and show a trailer for the others. Then you can use your conference to appeal to people that don't already own your console, or show your core audience new experiences to enjoy.
I dont have much problem there because they'er appealing to their audience. The Microsoft press conference is monopolized by GameTrailers owned and aired on SPIKE for a reason: Microsoft appeals to high school/frat boys. Those people like FPSs and Western RPGs only really, so its natural thats what you would show. Likewise, Nintendo always shows more "child at heart" colorful fun games like Mario and Zelda instead of manly man FPS because that is their audience.
I don't like 2D zeldas generally, but for $6 I decided to give it a shot. Plus, I'm stocking my 3DS up for the summer: I've got about 50 hours of train travel in a couple of weeks and the remaining Ranger's Apprentice books will only keep me occupied for so long
Im not using the 3DS VC for nostalgia (mostly, gotta buy Pokemon GSC), but rather to play out on all the games I missed (DK '94, SML2, Wario Land, MM:Dr.Wilys Revenge, etc).
So far, the "must have" VC game for me is Donkey Kong '94. I'm having a lot of fun with that sucker.
In other news, tomorrow I leave on vacation for two weeks, armed with my 3DS and copy of OoT for the 24 hour train ride. I expect a full debriefing on the big Nintendo news I miss when I get back
Okay, well before I bid you all farewell, does the 3DS charging platform do anything besides look pretty (i.e making it charge faster), or does just the plain cable do the same job?
EDIT: Also, I nearly died laughly reading this. Warning: incredibly stupid sexual metaphors galore
