(Apologies for the uber long post...I got a bit fired up)
I've been a fan of pokemon since it first came out...absolutely loved the yellow version where Pikachu would follow you around ^^
I agree with some of the statements above and I would like to add my 2 cents as well if that's ok...
Firstly, yep I agree with Pokemon and the way its geared at a younger audience, but I have friends in their 30's that play. Seeing the frenzied excitement light up their faces when they finally manage to catch a pokemeon they've been trying to get for weeks is something else ^^
What it needs is something that will appeal to older fans, to keep them interested.
I have been pining for a proper 3D version of this game for years. Unfortunately I never had a Game Cube so didn't get to play Gale of Darkness, and from most of the comments either people hated or loved it.
The battle style is something I've gotten used to in my many -

- years of playing the games. I am however, open to trying out anything new.
The game style does need to be changed to something different. All the DS games have the same things in common, except for new pokemon...which is fine but I tend to find that a little boring, and recently only play them now to collect the new creations and see what they evolve into and how they fight.
As for the pokemon themselves, there are 490 odd pokemon already, including legendary etc etc. I'm a collectaphile and love wandering around trying to get every single one of them heh, so any new editions would be great...but why not have competitions where fans can create their own? (They might already have, not sure) Also, what about looking on deviantart if they're falling short of ideas? There are masses of 'fakemon' out there, some complete with stats that are absolutely fantastic!
Yep, I agree completely with the monotinous task of collecting and searching...it be boring! But what if they made it a little like the TV series where they wander into a forest and see masses of Pidgey or clumps of Gloom? They are basically birds and flowers, so why not treat them like birds and flowers?
I love the idea of an art/paint generated thingy in the game though

Using your impressive (or not so impressive) drawing skills to try and explain to the Doc what it was. You then could get experience points on how good your drawing is lol! Ace.
I think it all boils down to them making a MMORPG - as said in eariler posts. That would be so awesome! They already have more data than necessary to make one, and that would also keep everyone happy as then you could choice your own thing to be: (male or female is a must) breeder, trainer, photographer, pokenurse/doctor...and yes, even work for the bad guys ^^
Having a MMORPG would enable them to update things when needed - maybe having a main town to start, with an upgrade where you can travel to another town/village/forest etc where there are different pokemon.
It would also be able to excite the older generation of players.
FF have got onto the MMORPG wagon, and millions of people play GuildWars and others....why they haven't started a Pokemon MMORPG is beyond me....though I do understand the amount of work that has to go into online games like these so maybe that is why they've never done one...
I'm getting excited now so I need to shut up

and plus I've more than likely said a lot of things you've already read (apologies)
But before I go, can I ask you guys; if they did bring out a MMORPG of Pokemon, what would you chose to be?
For myself I'd probably be a tamer or an adventurer/traveller. Or roll them into one like they do in GuildWars where you can be a Ranger/Elementalist. Haha!
I want this to be become a reality now....
