My comp hates me so I can't copy & paste or post the link, so go to (with no spaces: Gaming Seals . webs . com
then go to "review Blog" tab. My MW2 review is the bottom one.
EDIT: Here it is:
"Modern Warefare 2 is doing amazing. 550 million sold in five days. A 94% average on MetaCritic. So clearly reviewers like it, and many people bought it on impulse, but really, is that importaint? The real question is "Do the fans like it?" That, dear readers, is a whole other story. The Call of Duty fanbase has never been quite so torn before, with many loving the game, many hating it, and others impartial. My personal opinion, which I will be writing about, is that this game, though while a solid package, is not very good.
First things first, the single player (abbreviated "SP" from here on out). The SP section of Modern Warefare 2 is a very good entry. The gameplay is fun, the action is fast paced, there's a lot of variety and missions, and the whole thing is just cool. Cool.....cool......that's not what I remember using to describe Call of Duty 4. I remember using words liek "breath-taking, immersive, and shocking." Call of Duty 4's pacing and storyline was superb, with shockign set peice moments defining the genre, not just the game. It's clear Infinity Ward wanted to outdo themselves this release, but tried too hard. The fans loved it when your American soldier died in a shocking plot twist. So the only natural thing to do is to make it happen half a dozen times. What Infinity Ward didn't realize though, is that something is shocking when it is not done regularly. And in Modern Warefare 2, killing off major characters is a common occurence. Gee, that kind of contradicts the definition of "shocking" doesn't it? And remember the immersive experience of CoD4? Well, that was thrown out the window for an action-movie approach, with explosions going off and epic leaps of faith made every four and a half seconds. This is not a bad thing though, this part depends on what you wanted in the SP. This game also has a ton of plot holes, but I'll save those for a later day, when spoilers are not an issue.
The second thing is the Special Ops portion. If you've been living under a rock, the Spec Ops is a two-player co-op mode. That sentence holds this mode's flaw. Can anybody point it out? I'll give you a hint, it rhymes with "moo-mlayer."............that's two players. Anyway, two players means yes, it does offer a more intense experience, but you lose a lot of the fun of goofing off with three friends in Nazi Zombies. And some missions like Homeland Security, a wave-based survival mission, are jsut crying out for more people.
Now we get to multiplayer. This is where things fall apart. If you think I was annoyed before, well prepare yourself. Multiplayer is bad. Not World at War bad, but still. This game is way, way, way too new player friendly (I refuse to use n00b because I feel it will drain any amount of dignity I have left in this). Assault Rifles have near zero recoil, the spawn system is just as bad as ever, the host system returns which makes connection more importaint than skill, etc. I can go on and on, and gosh darn it I will. SMGs are incredibly underpowered because of high recoil on large maps with Assault Rifles with just the same rate of fire. Killstreaks are overpowered. And I mean overpowered, MP40-style. Whenever I get a Predator Missile, it guarantees two kills for my Harriers, which guarantees two kills for my Pavelow. Whenever I have a game where I get air support once or twice my score goes through the roof. As in "I was going 9-12, now I end the game 44-15." Which leads me to another thing. In this game, you die really quickly. Three shots with a rifle at range, that's it. Without Stopping Power. So that's two shot kills with Stopping Power. That's really quick. Let's see here, did I get everything.......yeah pretty much. But remember, those flaws are huge. I used to be a good Call of Duty 4 player. My average game near the end of it's lifespan was around 30-7. My average KDR was 4:1, though it was not uncommon for me to do ridiculously well, as in 20:1 KDR. Now lets look at Modern Warefare 2, shall we. What's that, an average KDR of only 1.2:1, a 3:1 on a good day? That means something has happened. And that would be how new player friendly this game has become.
And here we are, the concluding paragraph. In summary, campaign and Spec Ops are good despite their flaws, but multiplayer is not good. However, despite my rant disguised as a review, I don't think Modern Warefare 2 is a bad game. It's just lacking in many areas, and not worthy of the praise it gets. If this wasn' ta Call of Duty game, it wouldn't be nearly as popular. Oh, and time for my "Score" section. I don't believe numbers can justify a score, so instead I have a "Is it better than section." Here we go:
Battlefield: Bad Company:
Depends. BF: BC was a large open-field game that rewarded teamwork with a slower pace. It has its ups and downs too, so the call isn't too clear. If it sounds like it appeals to you go for it, but for now, you may want to wait until I properly make some form of review. oh, but the sequel that addresses every complaint of the original BC due out next year? That's going to be a winner. Trust me.
Halo 3:
No. Halo 3's campaign may have been worse, but the co-op elements in the campaign and Custom Games make this a winner. Not to mention a laod of extras like Forge and Theather to keep you laughing and having fun for years to come. Oh, and there's a balanced online mode that rewards skill. If you like that Halo online thing.
Call of Duty 4:
No. End of story."
