Help with the 1019 block Gamecube memory card?

A few weeks ago, I picked up a game I hadn't played in awhile, Marvel Nemesis: The Imperfects. I beat the game again, and then my memory card randomly got corrupted. I looked it up online, and read that the Wii was the cause. I decided not to make a big deal of it, because there was room on my brothers smaller memory card (32 blocks?), so we just beat the game again on his memory card. Well now, I'd like to start playing Madden 2008 again, but of course, that's a game that takes up hundreds of blocks of memory. When my 1019-block memory card (Nintendo-made, not Madcatz 16x) first got corrupted, Marvel Nemesis gave me the option to format it - from the Wii. So it wiped the memory card, and it should work again. But of course, it doesn't. I still have my Gamecube, but can't find the cables, so I can't reformat it there. I'm just wondering what caused this? I can get a new memory card of equal size, but will it just happen again? I've had this memory card since I got my Gamecube, which was at least back in 2005, and had no problems with it. I got the Wii the day it came out, still no problems until recently. Did the Wii actually cause this? Is it only the 1019-block (my brother's smaller one seems unaffected, and he got it from his friend who used it since before I got mine)? Will it just happen again if I try to get another one?

So... Is it worth getting another? Or should I get a smaller one/MadCatz 16x?
