Anyway, I'm surprised that Monster Hunter is never mentioned in any of these "Hey the Wii is for hardcore gamers too" articles.

I was under the impression that a very challenging game centered around dismembering large creatures that spray blood with each strike was 'hardcore.'

Apparently I'm mistaken.

On a separate note, and not sure if I should say this but

I have a hard time not trolling the Sony fans who attack Monster Hunter 3 for going to the Wii. I'd do it as a game/dev fan rather than a console fan, it makes more sense to applaud the artist rather than the brand of paint and brushes they use, if you get the analogy.

Anyway, lately I've come to a thought: Capcom hates Sony

They multiplat all of their biggest titles off of Sony consoles, or just give them to Nintendo. And lets look at the last time they did that.

Yeah, my brother and sister each have a Wii. If they have the black Wii bundle out here, I'm getting it for myself.

Nope, since unlike in most MMOs, you actually fight in Monster Hunter, with different attacks being assigned to buttons. You're never assured a kill based on a 'level' as there is no traditional leveling system, instead you collect materials off the creatures you kill as well as mined ores and gathered materials such as insects and plants, and create the equipment.

There's no lock on system, which a lot of old reviews complained about, but the camera always being on the creature would kill what little realism there is in the combat. It would also ruin combat in the way it's presented with the creature's weaknesses and weak points, as well as which part of the weapon you're hitting with.

You can also bring things like traps, bombs and tranquilizers to make your kills easier. Though traps can only be used on larger creatures and certain ones evade certain traps and different terrains wont allow the use of others.

Mission setup is similar to something like Phantasy Star where you have a hub town where you take all your missions from and different maps for each mission. However, unlike Phantasy Star, Monster Hunter isn't a dungeon crawler, the maps which include; Swamp, Jungle, Forest and Hills, Great Forest, Volcano and Ancient Tower, where you freely move around different sections of the maps. Boss monsters do the same, being able to fly or walk between the areas.

Monster Hunter Tri is expanding on that with a day and night cycle as well as the possibility of seasons with map ecosystems that remain unchanged during these times regardless of your quest. Creatures in it will also need to eat, drink, take shelter from heat/cold and other such things. Lagiacrus, the large sea serpent featured on the game's cover for example, has to lay down in the sun to recharge its electrical powers forcing it out of the water.

I'd do it if it weren't for the language barrier, I've tried playing JP Monster Hunter games before. Doing that made me realize how much you need to know what you need and made it kind of frustrating.

Personally I thought gunlances were overpowered since they took the already strong lance, added freakin explosions, and made it's base attacks stronger. There wasn't a give and take like when switching between Great sword and Long sword.

While on the subject of removed weapons, bows and dual swords were both broken in the same way: Get a weapon with a high enough element and you'll never have to learn how to use the weapon properly, just spam the same attack and you'll do fine.

It'll be the first Wii game I bought at all. I think that may be true for a good amount of the people getting the game.
