Fall-Back? |

DO you like game with a fall-back system? By that I mean that if you don't have the sheer skill to do something there is always a way to "power-up." SMB does not, while the Legend of Zelda and most RPG's do (heart pieces and leveling up). I personally do. ------------------- quote Dragon ZERO

It's nice actually. You see it more in games heavy on single play modes though, MKWii and SSBB both do not, meanwhile Twilight Princess does, as I believe Metroid Prime 3 should with power ups. -------------------

I don't have a Wii (yet baby) but in Oblivion for 360, PS3, and PC, you can always go train on other things to level up before quests. Well, you don't even need to do quests. -------------------

For some game types its necessary, for others it is not. It would be ridiculous to play through an RPG where you never leveled up or got new equipment/magic because that kind of customization is what adds strategic depth to those games. Likewise, it would be ridiculous for a platformer where you leveled up since that would be unnecessary since platformers specialize in testing your reaction skills and judgment rather than your strategic thinking. ------------------- ![]() Help revive the Baten Kaitos Origins forum!

Depends on the game, but overall I like them. They bring a whole new challenge and I prefer games that take knowledge and skill.

Metroid is a platformer, yet you can go back and find new equipment and upgrades at any point. Banjo Kazooie also as a similar mechanic. -------------------

heart pieces in zelda are more because as you progress through the game, enemies get harder (darknuts couls wipe out 3 hearts in one swing), so you need more hearts to survive them. -------------------

IN a NES game called Faxanadu, it gives you the option of wasting about an hour collecting a lot of money to buy the really good magic and a really good shield in the game. ------------------- ![]() quote Insanity Prevails
