I quickly followed up my 'confession' with a disclaimer, "Nobody here can say anything about this. What happens on the trampoline stays on the trampoline." Everyone nodded and the conversation melted into more casual talk. A half hour later it was almost too dark to see each other, so we swam back to the dock and laid on the grass. There had only been six of us on the trampoline, but another twenty or so had been cooking hotdogs or playing volleyball. Throughout the rest of the night Katie and I would occationally look at each other and smirk or even outright grin. The group of us had our own little pile of secrets that night that we wouldn't tell anyone else about. -------------------

I didn't like the way the chapter ended up, so I decided to rewrite it. The same idea is still there, but a few of the things I didn't like I rephrased. .:~4 Months Later~:. I took out my cellphone and dialed Andy's number. His dad answered, "Hello?" "Hey," I responded, "is Andy there?" "Yeah, hold on." I waited a couple seconds before hearing him pick up, "Hey." "Are you freaked coming, I asked. "The carnival ends tonight." "Yeah, yeah," he said, "I'll be down in a second." While I waited for him I walked around the carnival. It wasn't huge, but then again this wasn't a huge town, so that wasn't understandable. I was about to get something to eat when I thought I recognized someone in the crowd. "Katie?" I yelled, not completely sure it was her. She turned and I got a better look at her face, it was her. "Hey," she said, and walked up to me. "How are you?" "I'm not bad, you?" "I'm good, I'm good. God, the last time I saw you was on the trampoline." Thinking quickly, I realized she was right. "Wow, you're right." We shot the breeze for a while and she ended up giving me her number. Finally, Andy walked up to us. "Okay," he said, "I'm here. Let's go do something." I nodded and turned to Katie, "I'll talk to you later." "Yeah," she said, "call me sometime." We walked seperate ways, but after a couple seconds I looked for my shoulder and smiled. -------------------

She and I talked every now and then on the phone over the next three months. Nothing extreme - we never talked more than an hour a week total - but we were starting to become pretty good friends. One such night she was especially giddy (or "hyper" as she called it), and I asked her why. "Well," she said. "You remember what I told you guys on the trampoline?" "Yeah, the whole second base thing," I responded, confused. "Well, it was kind of a lie." I laughed in spite of myself; I hadn't ever considered that maybe she was lying too. "Well why are you telling me this now?" I asked. "Because Bobby and I got to second for real today." For a second, my heart stopped, I didn't know what to say. I've always believed in abstinece, even if I didn't act like it. But now my mind had to raise another question, why did I care what she did? She wasn't my girlfriend, I still barely knew her at all. -------------------
