Game physics engine - Back to Shattered Skies (yay!)

Had to chance to try this out last week. Played the first few missions. You start off with a phantom, as in Ace 4, and the phantom physics (movement, momentum) greatly resemble what they did in Shattered Skies. (Or Distant Thunder, if you're in the UK)

I feel this is a good thing, as the physics here are more true to real world spec than their recent games (5 and Zero). If you nose dive and pull up for to level out at 100 feet, you don't instantly 'fly the line', as in 5 and Z. That momentum from 4 is back, and though you may get your craft facing zero pitch, you'll still move downward for a bit due to the momentum from the dive. When the next gen console Ace games go online, physics like this will be needed to focus the online portions player vs player, skill vs skill gameplay. (It can't all depend on simple usage of modern/futuristic craft)

Other adjustments like payload reduction and such would need to work too, but from what I've seen here, they're definitnely considering a healthy move to online.

Since Bandai/Namco have recently teamed up with Sony to form "Cellius", (Ban/Nam get 51% profit, Sony 49%), you can expect Ace Combat to take full advantage of the PS3's cell processors, and further push the dynamic look of Ace Combat to its best, as well as provide (Sony) plenty of support for online components. (A la Socom, Gran Turismo, etc)

When did this happen? The forming of Cellius, that is...

You're right about the physics engine.
I, for one can't wait for the next installment in the series.

re: Game physics engine - Back to Shattered Skies (yay!)

It'll likely end up being 250-350 after a year from now (if sale trends continue, or improve). Until the consoles hardware becomes easier to mass produce, the price can't drop any lower or Sony runs the (imo, small...) risk of loosing $.

I doubt the PS3 will ever fail, just hang in there. Everyone'll own one some day.
