I recall one gameplay vid that used a quite effective means.

It was in a narrow corridor, with a Bouncer headed up, as of yet still neutral. Said corridor was filled with about 6-8 trap bolts across the sides and about 3 proximity mines on the ground. The player shot the Bouncer once with the crossbow, then let him charge. Instant death.

Though I'm guessing that the Bouncer was already slightly wounded to go down that easily.

It should be instant death to any Big Daddy provided it isn't on hard mode. It only takes me 3-4 trap bolts and 3-4 mines to take down a Big Daddy, just from him charging through them.

I had a quick go on easy, and I was amazed how quickly the Big Daddies go down. It only takes 5 electric bucks before they die, and they barely hurt you with their attacks anyway.

I believe it was on Hard, but it was still cool.

I use the electric gel too, but you run out of ammo long before he dies on hard mode(100 rounds will leave him with about 1/3 of his life.) My hard mode strategy is to hit him with a grenade, then an electric buck to stop him in place, followed by another grenade. After that, I hit him with all 100 rounds of electric gel. I then finish him with electric buck shots. The last two shots in the shotgun are usually enough to finish the job, even on a hard mode elite bouncer.

It only takes 3 trap bolts to completely kill a Big Daddy on Normal, if you take Research Damage Upgrades into account.
