	I have a really old Canon (not certain of the legit title, but I never use it anyway) that my grandma got me last year. I'm progressively getting into photography now, though, and would love to know what I should look for? Something good in quality but moderately priced. I'm poor. 	Canon Rebel T1i (hopefully I'll upgrade to something like a 60D before I graduate college), 18-55mm and 55-250mm lenses (both f/3.5), a crappy tripod that is most definitely not meant for professional use, and a really sweet sling back backpack that I just got for Christmas. When my financial aid comes in for the semester I'm thinking about getting myself a 50mm f/1.8 lens for my portrait work. I've used one before and they are so, so amazing. Hey Justin, if money is a issue, then sticking with a iphone is probably your best option for the moment. However if you are looking to get into the interchangeable lens category, I would suggest going for a full DSLR, and none of that micro 4/3 cameras. A good option and kind of cheap, and portable is a Sony NEX [7 or 5N - 5N is the better option for cheap, 7 not worth it yet still] However if you think a true dslr might be something you prefer, cheap and good options are the Canon 600D or Nikon D3100 or a Sony Alpha a55. Canon and nikon have much better lens though, however the best lenses often benefit from better bodies. These will all cost under 1000$. However if you have the money and you are passionate about photography, I suggest getting a mid-range DSLR. This would be Canon [$1000]60d or [$1500]7D (body only) or if you are Nikon get the D7000. Because you will eventually upgrade anyways if you plan to get indepth with it. 	Finally got back into a DSLR! 5D II Canon 24-70mm F/2.8 50mm F/1.8 580EX II I only have $2,100 in the Body and 24-70mm. I found a steal! $80 for the used 50mm And around $350 for the flash. I love this camera! -------------------

The 500d you own is a great camera, and unless you move to 7D or higher there really is no need to change over to the newer rebels or even the 60d for that matter unless you want something specific from the lower end cameras. After waiting a few years and reading and testing out the 5dmk3 I've finally decided to get rid of one of my 5dmk2 and trade up. The upgrade step is vital, and that's why higher end cameras are released so slow, about 3 years apart. but rebel series and somewhat 60d series doesn't and they will last 3-4 years before the need to upgrade. ------------------- =Photography==GFX=

	I'm not sure which ones they are upgrading to, but they're definitely not the very high end ones, so maybe around the 60D series. I agree that upgrades are necessary only when you've grown out of your own model and need a better one to suit your needs. But for many people, and it's kinda sad, they upgrade only for bragging rights.
