Another sad landmark in Halo history will occur on February 15 when the PC servers for Halo 2 are closed down for good. According to a small paragraph at the end of a long community address, BS Angel of the Halo Waypoint confirmed the closure, citing that peak concurrency on the game was maxing out at around 20 players in recent months. Halo 2's Xbox counterpart died in April, 2010 and now the PC port will be joining his long-lost friend.

Here's the full statement from BS Angel on Halo 2's PC server closure:

"To switch gears ever so slightly, we’re sad to report that the service end-date for Halo 2 PC Multiplayer will be February 15, 2013. We’ve been monitoring the population for months, and it’s been peaking consistently at approximately 20 players or less. Those that own this game can continue to enjoy Multiplayer over LAN after that date; however our network services will be turned off at that time. We love you, Halo 2 PC, and you will live forever in our hearts"

Afterwards, a single tear was shed, which always seems a bit overdone and melodramatic coming from a dev as they're quite literally pulling the plug on the server. There are plenty of other FPS games to be playing, anyways. Who in their right mind is still playing Halo PC in 2013. Of course, considering Halo 3 and likely Halo 4 won't be coming to the PC, there is going to be a bit of a gap fill.
