A DNS error means you're not connected to the net. The DNS or Domain Name Server is how PCs and other devices connect to the net. All it does it collect and translate IP addresses. But if you can't get to one then your system won't be able to connect to anything.

However since you can get to the store and the browser without problem then that's not the problem. What the problem might be is you have a poor connection. Meaning you can get to the net but you don't have much bandwidth. The store and browser don't require a lot of bandwidth. But games can be laggy and even drop connections if your bandwidth is below a certain speed. You might want to do a speed test. Or even try rebooting your router and modem. Just unplug both of them for 10 seconds then plug them back in.

You have many questions. Lets take one thing at a time.

You will need a wireless router (see the first post). Get one and set it up. You will be asked to enter a 10 digit WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) key.

Once that is done refer back to the first post. If you need help finding your IP Address and settings, go to a command Prompt (DOS prompt) on your PC or laptop and type "ipconfig" without the quotes. Press ENTER and it will display what you need to enter into the PS3's settings.

That depends. What is the model number. Is that a cable modem that has a USB that connects to the modem and an Ethernet (RJ-45) on the other?

In that case, no. It will not work with a PS3. Sorry.

Well for one because it is a USB connection many drivers would have to be detected and downloaded to make it work. I don't think the PS3's Operating System would detect and would find the appropriate drivers. And second, because it acts like a dial up connection rather than an Ethernet connection.

Please read the first post. It describes service types which should include Tiscali DSL. If you get stuck, please post where you get stuck. Include your DSL modem's Name and model number. If you have a router include the name and model number. Also include your connection type (wired or wireless). This way we can help you and not steer you in the wrong direction.
