An update to the Metal Gear Solid Facebook page is stirred up a bit of excitement. Yoji Shinkawa, character and environmental artist for the Metal Gear Solid franchise, is apparently lining up a surprise for the MG 25th Anniversary. Erm, but I think that was last year, unless this is a whole year-long event. I'll have to get back to you guys about when this 25th anniversary thing actually is.
Here's the full statement made on the Metal Gear Solid Facebook page:
"Shinkawa is preparing a very special surprise for our MG 25th Anniversary. Do you want him to personally answer your questions? Leave them in a comment now!"
He has not, as far as I can tell, replied to any of the questions posted through Facebook's comment system.
As for what this sort of statement could imply, my guesses are all over the place. It could be as simple as a new Metal Gear Solid art book, which many fans have been requesting in the post's comments. Of course, it could also be something huge like the cover art for Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes or Phantom Pain/Metal Gear Solid V.
Perhaps the biggest question, however, is just when we can expect Shinkawa's surprise. The requests for questions on the Facebook page implies a response relatively soon, or at worst in the coming week or two. Looks like we have another waiting game, the gaming industry's favorite kind of game.
If any news breaks I'll be sure to update the story as soon as I can. I'd probably recommend not getting too hyped, though, considering this may be a small or inconsequential story. With Kojima's love of teasers within teasers for Metal Gear Solid, you really never know.
