Your take on collectibles?

Playing madness returns and it has a crap ton of collectibles, some 250+ overall, and it got me thinking it could be a good discussion topic.

I personally hate them, especially if they are over 100-125. I don't really have any fun grinding past so many in a game; it just tires me out from the game once I get them all. And because of that it ususally means right to a guide for them without attempting to look for them all.

Another thing that irrates me, is most games don't give you a tracking system. I don't want them to tell me where they are, but give me some kind of way to narrow my search down like what I have with the game I am on now. It doesn't tell you how many within each level, but they do give you the overall chapters numbers. Because most games don't do that, it also is a huge factor to the "Right to a guide" mantra.

. Batman: Both of the Arkham games have had really addictive collectibles to find, there may have been a stupendous amount on both games but they did have their own side story which made it worth playing.

2. Infamous: Again both games had the shards that were great to collect as they gave you upgrades and I feel like if more games had the upgrades from collectibles then they'd definitely be more fun to find to know you're actually getting something from them.

Agree here, I enjoyed collectibles in these games, mostly because I enjoyed it them pretty immensely.

AgentMo Unchartered did it right in my opinion too. They didn't tell you where, but atleast gave you the chapter numbers

Despise them. I think they should be marked on the map as soon as you collect them. I particularly despise them when they don't do anything; they're there for the sake of being there

Defineitley agree here, just like the game I'm on now. They have no friggin purpose

This is going to be my overall stance. Although, if games keep the number resonable, like 75 to 125 overall, I may not complain unless they get grindy

think GTA4 is the biggest culprit for this. Even with a guide some of the pigeons are practically impossible to find without a guide. I remember one paticular pigeon was on top of a roof that you couldn't reach. The only way to kill the pigeon was to either A. Jump out of a chopper and land on the roof or B. Blindly throw a grenade onto the roof and hope it kills the pigeon. Now imagine if you didn't even know there was a pigeon there. You could spend the next 10 years playing the game and still never find it.
Another pigeon was in a tiny alcove on the coast that you could only get to using a boat and even then it was hard to see as it was out of sight till you were at the perfect spot to be in the right angle to see the pigeon.

Good thing I fell out of interest for GTA games years ago. I used to love them, Idk why that happened.

The one that comes to immediate mind, is one of the ruins in Darksiders, it was in that fan room leading to the drowned pass. Where you have to jump in that little spot off the fan with no landing. Yea, I woulda never thought to jump some place with no landing, and would have passed by it a million times had I not looked it up.

Thats just my first one I could remember. But this has happened in plenty others that I can't recall at the moment

This also runs in reverse, I've stumbled onto secret areas (Atleast I think so) that could have been a great hidey hole for a collectible but I stumble into it only to fine a big fat nothing. This has lead me to say, "This would've been a good spot for 1"
