What puts you off buying a game - Page 2

Usually if the gameplay loses its appeal or it becomes too repetitive. I hate repetition, in most situations.

And finishing off: The price! £40 is a lot for a new game when it comes out, some games like MW3, BF3 and even a handful of games that are single player online have came out at £45! Your not alone here most of us are the same way. Games aren't cheap and sometimes you can't quite justify paying full price even on ones you really want, especially when there are other games you've been wanting to play that are cheaper. The global economy certainly does play a role in it and I swear the ones saying its not a problem are the same ones that don't think twice about their daily Starbucks.

When a game gets delayed I normally can't be bothered with it anymore and don't buy it and if the game has any real bad problems Like Dead Island had.

You're thinking more about Publishers or just logos in general, but yeah, I'm generally like this too. Seeing an EA logo on a box just makes me very hesitant to buy it because of the high possibility that it'll suck/be really mediocre. Good thing I lucked out with Kingdoms Of Amalur - great game.

There are some obvious ones like sequels to games I didn't like (hello Final Fantasy XIII-2) and anything that looks like a gimmicky shitfest (hi Fracture), but there's also when I hear many, many people say that a game is shit or boring that I'm very weary of it, especially when there is a game that I do want coming out or a game that I really want to buy.

Lack of online(Many exceptions can be made with certain titles like GoW, MGS, SH(Silent Hill), FF etc.), big installs, big patches, developers, publishers, genre, impossible plat, over-hyping, gameplay, boring story, and most importantly- originality.

Usually the reasons that put me off from buying a game have been stated already (certain publishers, bad gameplay, unpolished mechanics, online heavy with disregards to the single player experience) but I'll also like to add the day one DLC. If a game has DLC announced before it even comes out I don't get it, I rather wait for a version where they sell me the actual complete game instead of a platform to download the rest.

Publishers should take note from From Software and Bethesda, the DLC for their best games of last year is not out yet and the experience is perfectly fine without it, the people who would buy it are the fans that want more content because of personal preference and not because they feel they need to conclude the experience as it was advertised in the beginning (again mass effect 3).

But wouldn't you find this stuff out mainly after buying the game? Personally i can never judge until i play it for myself.

Delays. If you've expecting a title and it gets delayed, it's never for a good reason unless the company has the (you'll get it when it's finished rep) the only devs I've seen that were able to pull that off for big releases are MMO devs. It a game gets delayed than someone on the team is running a little beyond the deadline. In these cases any fixes after the delay are rushed. If the game is fixed and then goes into testing than testing gets rushed and bugs have to be prioritized rather than completely fixed.

Niche title Multiplayer. Any TPS shooters or misc genres like horror shooters or action titles are usually too low-cal to have a developed MP community on release. The niche titles are usually easy to spot because they are generally new IPs forcing in MP or established franchises that don't rake in too many day one sales. Think FEAR, Binary Domain, Alien vs Predator, Singularity, most games released from companies that also publish movies like Warner Bros. You find out it has a MP grind usually from checking the trophy lists (I check those before I buy because it gives you a better idea of what you'll be doing in game and how much gameplay you can milk out of the game. - Things to look for in trophies: Story trophies: Chapers/Key Points/endings, Choice/affinity/moral alignment trophies, collectibles, MP ranking/challenge trophies, and/or 100% completion trophies.
