Best/worst ideas for video games

I'm sure we've all played a game where we've wondered "what were they thinking?" when we come across something stupid.

Especially these days where every developer and their dog makes dlc for their games.

What have you considered bad ideas?

On the other hand, what gaming ideas have made you think "you know, that's a good idea"?

Yeah X-Blades is a horrible game. Pretty much the only decent thing in that game was the lead characters tight arse

The whole concept behind Neverdead is one of those ideas that attempts to be original but fails miserably. A guy who dismembers himself and uses his body parts to fight demons is about the stupidest idea anyone can come up with.

It's not an original idea.

-Splatterhouse, you fight using limbs,

-Knight's Contract, you can't die.. you mash buttons to regen.

This game just borrowed ideas from niche titles.

I didn't know that. I still think it's a shit idea on top of very poor executions on the Neverdead's part though.

Au contraire, when I first heard about the game I was pretty hyped. A parody of video games, breaking the fourth wall, I was really looking forward to it. Then I heard it was really really really shit (as such, I never actually played the game). So imo that was good concept, bad execution.

BAD idea - Putting 'crutches' for bad players in your multiplayer, maybe unless you can limit it to only being used under a statistical or level limit. It's always going to make the game a 'one loadout/class' game, because all the "pro" players use the crutch(s) as well.

Even Hack n' Slash can be messed up in games though. See Venetica as my primary example. Execution is just as important as user interest in the feature.

For example, most gamers HATE escort quests. Why put them in games? Why make entire games based around escort? I'm looking at you Knight's Contract.

Games that rely on QTE to add difficulty. Again, Knight's Contract.

Making the entire game take place in a single city so that areas could be reused. Dragon Age II.

Citing artistic freedom for the color changes in the seperate endings of Mass Effect 3.

Outsourcing single player to another company that then butchers character history and replayability. Soul Calibur V.

Collectibles in games where collectibles have no purpose or benefits. Many many games.. but the most recent game I recall is L.A. Noire.
