PS1 Game on PS3 - help please.

Thanks in advance to anyone who responds to this.

So I bought a PS1 game Syphon Filter on Ebay and it is not working on my PS3. This is the first PS1 game I've bought to try, therefore making it difficult to know whether there is a problem with my system in regards to playing PS1 games. It does not read the disc at all. Here is some info to help weed out the "I need more Info questions"

-I have the 60gb PS3 model CECHA01 (listed as able to play ps1,2 and 3 games)
-I have created memory slots for both ps1 and ps2 (and so far I've had no problems with ps2 games)
-Syphon filter is listed on a list of tested compatible games for ps3. (accuracy and sources of wiki unknown) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_3_backward_compatible_PlayStation_2_and_PlayStation_games
-I downloaded an emulator that is suppose to allow ps1 games to play on my computer (ePSXe) to try and test the disc and it was unable to play disc (my computer wouldn't even read it, it just sat there trying and eventually stopped responding.)
-PS3 software is up to date.
-PS3, PS2, Music Cds and DVDs all work fine (retested all today)

My problem is none of my test could conclusively direct the issue to the disc itself, and I do not want to whine at the person who sold it to me unless I am very sure it IS the disc. Does anyone have any insight on conclusively testing this thing as viable or have any suggestions of anything else to check to make this work? And no I do not have a PS1 to test it on

As I mentioned in my original post I have model CECHA01.

He mentioned he has the 60GB which is backwards compatible. The 60GB will play both PS1 and PS2 discs.

Even if he had a slim PS3 he would be able to play PS1 discs because the slim PS3 is still backwards compatible with PS1 games. I actually played Final Doom for PS1 on my PS3 last night.



Anyway LordVido what country are you in and what region is the SF disc? If you are in America the disc will have to be NTSC whereas if you are in Eu or Aus, the disc will have to be PAL format.

PS3 games are to only ones that aren't region locked.

I've only updated the core software. Don't think any special patches, but in any case the PS2 games are still working.

Pretty sure all PS3 models play PS1 games.

Why didn't you just download Syphon Filter? It's on the PS Store for a few measly bucks.

All PS3's can indeed play PS1 games, both downloaded and disc-based. Problem with the disc would be my guess, as well. Nonetheless, I wouldn't buy a PS1 game on disc, if it is available in the PS Store as well...

PS3 can only play PS1 or PS2 games that are from the same region as the PS3. Unlike PS3 games, backwards compatibility is region locked.

Is your PS3 PAL/NTSC? Is your game not the same as your PS3? Therein may lie the problem.
