Dvd recorders have inherent lag as they digitise the source and record it onto the hard drive. To make sure you can play while recording you need to split the signal from your ps3, to go to the TV and DVD recorder at the same time.

I use the Logic LDRVR808. It's a freeview/DVD recorder with a hard drive so you can record onto the hard drive and burn it onto a DVD later. It's real noisy tho, so I only plug it in when I need it.

Basically without a HD PVR with a HDMI input like this one, you cannot play in HD while recording. You need to have those Red, White and Yellow cables plugged into your PS3 and outputting in SD.

Then you need to buy THREE of these splitters:

Plug the wires from the PS3 into the 3 splitters.

Then plug those splitters into your TV.

Then you need to have another set of RCA cables (red, white and yellow). While the splitters are plugged into your TV, plug the new set of RCA cable into the vacant holes into the splitter. These wires are then plugged into the DVD recorder. And ta-dah!

It's a good idea to then connect your DVD recorder to your TV too, just so you know what you are recording. You can do that with a scart cable or some RCA cables.
