Collectables: So I've noticed that practically every game I've played in the past few years requires you to collect something. Of course the trend started AGES ago, with games like Mario and stuff, but in this generation where a lot of us a completionists or trophy whores, it's incredibly likely that whatever game you're playing requires you to "Collect 100% of This Thing" to get a trophy. Generally this doesn't annoy me too much. The collectable Audio Diaries in the Bioshock games were at least interesting and fleshed out the world of Rapture. Likewise the Newspapers in LA Noire were important to the story. But shit like "collect a gazillion feathers for your dead bro" or "shoot ALL the bugs!" are just an irritating excuse for game "replayability". Multiplayer: Of course FPS games like CoD thrive off their MP. We are a social people, so generally we like teaming up and shooting the crap out of the enemy (or shooting the crap out of each other). What irritates me are games that have MP that is obviously tacked on, once again for "replayability". Some games get it right. MP in the story-driven, SP-focused Assassins Creed games was amazing. But others, like Bioshock 2 or Bulletstorm, just obviously aren't up to scratch. Don't even get me started on MP trophies and people who can't get online access. Just some gripes I've been thinking about lately. I know you guys have lots more to add. ------------------- when it spurt it feel very good in asian ass to visual styles

	Agree with both points. Collectibiles are just bothersome when they're cranked up to 150+. Prime example is batman arkam city, they went from 250(Arkam Asylum) up to 440, Yes, some were fun and creative to get, but cmon! I don't feel like rummaging through the whole city wasting hours for that long doing in essence nothing (Still plated though because the rest of the game was great). Same with the first prototype, of which I wont plat because they got like 3 or 4 different collectibliles at like 100 a pop or close to it. And just to round it off, yes, Assassins Creed 2 with the 100 feathers, got on my last nerve. My verdict is cut back on them, seems every new game I play is adding more and more. Not gonna say much on M P games, but yea, I hate how developers feel they need to tack on a M P to games that don't really need it, like ACreed and DeadSpace2. Creative twist yea, but not nessecsary for those type games. All Shooters and Sports games need M P in my opinion, but not all games need it. -------------------

	When indie games are less about the game and more about being as "deep" and "artistic" as possible. It's great that you want to prove that video games are a legit form of art - just don't forget to make a game that people actually want to play with that. Not asking for the moon here, guys. Course, most indie developers think that it is too much for them, which makes them shit games as a result... That covers 80% of the indie game library. When story driven games have bad gameplay. By all means have a kickass story, but don't forget to develop a game with it. Too bad only Hideo Kojima and Rockstar remember this. Course, I don't have as much of an issue with QTE heavy games.. course, I mean Heavy Rain and Indigo Prophecy, not Resident Evil 4 or God Of War. Variety for the sake of variety - because god forbid you play one style for more than 10 seconds. Thank you God Of War, you're an inspiration to us everywhere because you're so CHOCK FULL OF VARIETY! 	-Short Campaigns. There is nothing that bothers me more than a short campaign. Vanquish is a prime example of this. Great game, but way too short, I would of been pissed if I bought it (borrowed it from a friend in my dorm.) -Muli-player that is an after thought, prime examples bioshock 2 and dead space 2.

	Trends? Hmmm... Casualizing (my new word) harder or cult selling games. Demon's Souls to Dark Souls. Final Fantasy going from turned based to action oriented play. Lies. Marketing the games as something they aren't. Examples: Hunted the Demon's Forge being marketed as a masterfully crafted coop experience. Dead Island being story driven. -------------------

If you don't like the multiplayer mode in games... Don't play multiplayer! The best thing to do before buying any game is to rent it first, then buy it later on if you enjoy it. That way you can be confident you will like the game. I'm sure there are plenty of people who might actually like collectibles, don't expect the game to just cater for you, and only you. There are many gamers in this world, and we are all very different to each other. Same goes for multiplayer, I'm sure there are also gamers out there that put much more emphasis on single player campaigns than multiplayer. You are entitled to your opinions, however I feel that these things that 'ruin' a game for you might not be the case for many other people.

Paper Fox, i actually disagree with both of your points I quite like collectibles, my most favourite being ones that dominate a level which most games don't have nowadays. Im thinking Orbs in Enslaved, or Gems in the old Spyro games. Tacked on multiplayer is....yeah i can see why people don't like it. But if the game doesn't have multiplayer i always think 'dammit, if only this game had a really basic multiplayer for jokes'. I think the main trend that is ruining gaming is checkpoints. Not saying they're bad overall, but upon playing Heavy Rain it got me realising. In that game, if you make a mistake you have to pay the consequences, you don't get a redo. That resulted in even the most basic of dangerous scenarios being extremely intense and heart pumping. Whereas you have Uncharted 3, the plane sequence.....one of the most craziest set pieces ever. But because i knew nothing bad would happen if i died, it was nowhere near as intense. And then thinking back to the old Resident Evils, where you didn't have checkpoints but a limited number of saves. That was awesome, but of course only really works with a survival horror template. But yeah, more games without checkpoints (or at least not as frequent checkpoints) would be good. -------------------

Of course we are all different, which is why there will never be a "perfect" game. My point was that I'm noticing these elements which, when done correctly can be freakin awesome, but sometimes they just aren't, and seem like more of a rushed afterthought for the sake of a few more hours of "gameplay". I gave good and bad examples in each category. I don't expect devs to "cater" to what I like, just put a little more thought into what they put into their games, and integrate these elements so that it doesn't detract from the gaming experience. And I, like many others here I'm sure, are trophy hunters. I'll strive to get those trophies, which is why I tend to dislike things that don't have much to do with story or gameplay. I spent way too many hours driving around LA looking for film reels in LA Noire. Sure I didn't have to do it, but I'm a completionist by nature. 	Trying to make a game/series something its not or making too many changes/casualizing it. Every Time a company tries to remake/revamp a series everything goes south. Like how Spyro went from platformer/collectathon with enemies getting in your way, to a gow/rpg hybrid about killing every enemy in sight. Not a bad game on its own but not what a Spyro fan is probably looking for. Or what if capcom tried to make monster hunter, a rather unknown series known for a high learning curve/difficulty easier by making monsters weaker and adding lock-on to attract consumers. Problem is people still haven't heard of the series due to lack of advertising, so now all capcom did was possibly ruin the series for the existing fan base. thats why mhtri did as well as it did despite likely being an unknown among the wii's player base, Nintendo advertised the crude out of it. If left up to capcom nobody would have even heard of the game, except for the fans. Unfortunately most companies go this route expecting positive results rather than increase marketing. I hate games that literally take 2 days to complete and then it's on to the collectathon with them. Guess thats why I research every title I get. 	Obviously anyone who thinks Quickscoping makes them look cool. This new trend that every DLC has to be 15 bleeping dollars. MP in games that its pointless to be in I.E MGS series. Collectibles that exceed 50+. New ideas that ruin games that were perfect to start. (Im looking at BF3 and all that shit with lasers and flashlights and bolt actions being nerfed to the point of retardation) People who bitch about glitches in a SP only game. (and the glitch is perfectly avoidable) I wanted to give BF3 another chance after the atrocious BETA but guess what? bleeping onine pass bitches! its simply another money grubbing grab at cash of EA's part. IW tricking us into thinking they made a better MW game. Games that copy and paste formulas from other successful games. Children at the ages of 8-13 who can actually get away with purchasing an "M" rated game. Games with a bad storyline. Games that pay off GI to give them good reviews. (IW I see you) More later.
