	Log in to remove this advertisement just cut off when i was playing final fantasy 13, when i try and turn it on the light shines green,yellow,red within a second can it be fixed anyway???, dont hae the warranty

	Sounds like YLOD (Yellow Light of Death). It can be fixed but it's risky. I did it but it's not for the faint hearted. Some specialist stores can fix them but even then the fix may not last. If you ring Sony, with an out of warranty PS3, i think it's about £150 and they send you a refurbished console. 	I did the hair dryer trick on my YLOD PS3. Covered all the vents and blasted in hot air to the back vent for 20 minutes, let it cool for an hour as the thing was too hot to pick up and turned it on. It worked for about a day which was long enough to do a complete back up and to get my disc back.

	yeh ive looked at that video, seems actually really easy_ just so many screws. Thanks for your info, Just wondering how long did it last you when you did it (i understand it depends how good the fox is and how much you use it) I also have the 60gb also chris717 - what type of heat gun did you use - as that the hardest thing to find - a gun that aloows you to have variable tempreature control on the cheap side, found this but very expensive steinel hg 2310 and one last thing - if this doesnt work which other models does the YLOD affect Edit: Jun 12, 11

You can get them from most DIY shops. Mine didn't have the variable temp control. It'll tell you what it's operating temp is, so compare it to the temp of the one in Gilksy's Videos then adjust accordingly. If you do the fix, get Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste, that's one of the best. Mine worked for one day, but it was my fault because i went into a game like an hour later. Once you've done it, do some heat cycles. Leave the PS3 on for a 1/2 hour, then increase gradually. 	The heat gun, hairdryer etc methods dont work that long. The problem is they further damage the rest of the console by warping the board. One better way is the method is by this guy (http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-fix-a-YLOD-PS3-with-an-oven/?ALLSTEPS) and a good description how to disassemble is here (http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/PlayStation-3-Teardown/1260/4). Follow these and it really DOES work properly.....just need some guts to put your PS3 in an oven! I followed this method but used a programmable oven where I work but its the same idea. Takes a bit of effort but its actually not that difficult if careful about it and it worked for me.
